Meet Joanne Chang of Maison Louella in West Hollywood

Today we’d like to introduce you to Joanne Chang.

Joanne, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
Jewelry has always been my interest and passion, and I decided to design my own jewelry because I couldn’t find my taste for the quality and design in the current jewelry market. I was inspired by the meaning of Louella as a beautiful warrior and had launched the jewelry line in 2004.

Maison Louella is aiming to be an ultimate fashion house for modern women who love fashion. Maison Louella’s vision is influencing and empowering women to pursue their inner and outer beauty and self-respect and self-confidence. Maison Louella creates unique and trendy jewelry pieces to be loved and cherished and complete the stunning look for special occasions.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It’s been fun and exciting, but as a start-up business owner, I always need to think about making a smart decision to grow my business with a tight budget. I started with simple tools to craft my jewelry pieces in my house and decided to join the shared office instead of having my own to reduce the cost of operations. That’s the way I can provide affordable fine jewelry pieces to my customers.

I also have three children, so I always have to struggle between working and spending time with my kids. It wasn’t easy, and I’m still struggling, but at the same time, I find my joy and way doing both jobs. I love doing my work while watching my kids doing their homework on our dining table.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Maison Louella – what should we know?
Maison Louella is a jewelry brand for women who love themselves and fashion. I’m a creative director for our brand. I think wearing jewelry shows my identity and value. We create three different jewelry lines as silver line, 14k gold line, and high jewelry for different budget and style of our clients. I believe all the women should feel confident just the way they are and jewelry can help them look beautiful and feel more confident as women.

Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
I have a good and long relationship with my clients. Some of them are my friends and family and became my friends. They always support me from the very beginning of my business. I think love for jewelry can connect with women and I share our desires and struggles of my life with my clients, and we comfort and lift up each other. I feel so happy to watch them wearing my pieces and looking fabulous.
