Today we’d like to introduce you to Dan Madonia.
Dan, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I am a Los Angeles-based standup comedian, actor and writer(Son Of a Standup Comedian and an Adult Entertainer) Raised in upstate New York, I moved to Hollywood at a young age and have been performing to extremely diverse audiences at a wide array of venues and festivals around the world.
I have been featured on the SyFy Network, High Times Magazine and perform regularly for the Wounded Warriors Project. I was a DJ at a radio station, and the lead singer of severally touring bands, this background in music has led to me opening for bands like Los Lonely Boys, Lynard Skynard, Vince Neil, and Twisted Sister.
My comedy has gotten me invited to perform at the Woodstock Comedy Festival, The Los Angeles Scripted Comedy Festival and the Great American Comedy Festival. In 2017, I released my debut Standup Comedy Album “Deep Inside” along with a companion short video directed by Andrew Themeles and it remained on the top 100 albums on iTunes Charts for an entire year.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
I’ve had issues in the industry. I started Comedy as a child basically, and it’s hard for people to shake the image of the kid they knew and then accept the adult I’ve grown into.
Since I started Comedy, my main goal has been to become a Paid Regular at the World Famous Comedy Store in Hollywood, and for the past ten years, I have been in a holding pattern at the club as a “Non-Paid” Regular.
Which is the closest you can be, and I’m so ingrained into the clubs culture that there are many people that don’t even realize I’m not a paid regularly.
We’d love to hear more about what you do.
My spouse, Christina, and I have begun producing our very own, self-written projects throughout the City of Los Angeles.
We are currently finishing production on a full-length pilot presentation on a $0 budget and beginning pre-production on a Feature length film using talent and crew from all over Los Angeles.
We have a slate of original ideas that are going to be produced in the very near future.
What sets us apart from others is that we didn’t wait to get a yes from anyone else, we just create our own yes.’
If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
I would focus less on the successes and failures of others. They always tell you “the grass is always greener on the other side” but I’ve realized over time, I don’t even like green… I prefer purple.
