Meet Lila Rose of ANIIML in Highland Park

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lila Rose.

Lila, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I’m a full-time musician and artist originally from Toronto, Canada. I moved to the bay area of California nearly ten years ago and spent nearly 8 of those years between Berkeley and Oakland (east bay). I chose that area after a short music tour- having fallen in love with the weather, the environment, and the alternative scene there. I really enjoyed my time there, but after eight years, felt I had overgrown the area and was ready for a challenge and a change.

LA naturally felt like the next step for my personal life and my business, seeing as it’s one of the music centers of the world. It also meets my needs for a warmer climate, and a place where I can be around like-minded individuals: animal rights activists, spiritual types, and creative edge walkers. Thus far, it has met all of my expectations… I love it!

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Absolutely NOT. Being a musician is one of the most challenging careers in general (to make a living at it, I mean). It’s a struggle not knowing when the next gig, sync placement, tour, big stream flow will come. It’s always a big question mark as to how this is all going to play out.

It’s one of those careers that literally have zero formula to be able to follow in order to secure a successful future. I feel very blessed to have made it as far as I have, and yet it took a great amount of effort and compromise to make it happen.

Please tell us about ANIIML.
My company name is ANIIML. We are a three-person band making what has been termed as “hardcore witch pop.” We have seen most of our success in sync placement, which means our music has been used for tv shows and trailers. We are most known for putting on an unforgettable live show comprised of three drummers, dancers, and multimedia experience.

What sets us apart is the ability and desire to always create memorable experiences both live, recorded and in visual content, regardless of the funding or lack therefore. We pride ourselves in making quality, meaningful art full of depth, committed to making a difference in the world of both art and activism.

If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
I would have spent A LOT less time pretending to understand how to run a business, and spent a lot more time making a lot more art with a lot more people. The reality is that I’m not a business person: I’m an artist who has been flailing at the business aspect of the company.
