Meet Carol Wilson of Lsi Talent Management

Today we’d like to introduce you to Carol Wilson.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Carol. So, let’s start at the beginning, and we can move on from there.
I was a child actor and dancer and went on to study in London. I later changed track and became a Police Officer and detective in the amazing city of Liverpool in England. After 18 fabulous years, I broke a bone in my neck in a car accident and having to rethink my career I went back to my love of acting.

I became an acting coach and talent manager. Coaching is my passion. Onset, privately, class or masterclass I love it all. I get to meet children and teens from all over the world and work on some amazing shows and movies. I love building careers and guiding my clients to navigate what is a tough career choice, but one that chooses you rather than you choosing it. Children and teens are so smart, and I love their energy.

I work mostly between LA and London but have also worked on set in some amazing places, and that also gives me the chance to indulge my other passion, traveling.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
The road is always tough in the entertainment industry, and that is why I say you should be burning with a passion to do it. Rejection is never far away and can eat away at confidence. That is why I don’t just coach acting, but also promote self-belief, mindfulness, and meditation.

Often times it is hard getting your clients seen by casting if they don’t have credits and well-known agents. I totally understand that casting only have the time to see a certain number of actors for each role, but where there’s a will there’s a way, and I will battle as hard as I can for them to have opportunities.

I believe if you don’t buy a ticket, you can’t win the lottery. Equally, if you are not being seen, you can’t book a role. To keep opportunities open I also write and produce. I just submitted my second short to Cannes, I had one there a few years ago, and I have written a pilot that is in the process of shooting the sizzle reel.

Please tell us about Lsi Talent Management.
My company is a Talent Management company that covers both the US and UK. The cross-pollination is huge now with taping being a major part of the casting, so I am busy on two time zones. I am also an acting coach, coaching actors anywhere in the world no matter who their representation are.

I love that I can connect my actors even if only on social media and they often make friends for life. I specialize in children and teens. I love their professionalism, energy, sense of fun and zest for life. They are open to trying and perfecting new techniques, and they ask me all sorts of questions, yes even about homework!

I am very proud of all their achievements and having my clients in lead roles in shows such as WESTWORLD, SALEM, GAME OF THRONES, THE MAGICIANS and many more for companies including BBC, FOX, SYFY, DISNEY, NICKELODEON, E4, WGN AMERICA, ITV & MAJOR FEATURE FILMS.

If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
If I had to start over, I wouldn’t change a thing. I think every obstacle is a learning curve. Without rain, there are no rainbows.

I tell my actors that every disappointment and life experience are all tools that can be used to create believable and sustainable characters. We draw on imagination for more complex situations and substitute with something that may have made them feel the way the character does.

We always take off the character though like we take off the costume at the end of the shoot and leave it there. Actually, if I had to start again, I would have also studied business. It is the one thing that actors and in fact sportsmen are not taught.

In an industry where you are constantly hustling a strong knowledge of business would be incredibly helpful.
