Check out Connor Musarra

Today we’d like to introduce you to Connor Musarra.

Connor, we’d love to hear your story and how you got to where you are today both personally and as an artist.
The simplest way I can describe it is: I had the privilege of growing up around family members in the music industry. My story has just been a snowball effect from being a musician as a child, to making beats for my friends and releasing my own music as a teen, to DJing around the country in high school, to studying production at Berklee College of Music, to co-founding a record label and music publishing company while in college, to producing/writing music for TV/Film. The list goes on. I am very much a person who says yes to pretty much everything that comes my way. I have always had an insatiable urge to challenge myself and find new ways to express myself. Music is at the center of my expression, but I often find myself in spaces outside of it.

We’d love to hear more about your art. What do you do and why and what do you hope others will take away from your work?
I write, produce, play, record, manipulate, and explore music. Sometimes it’s for my own solo efforts; sometimes it’s for another artist or maybe a TV show or film. I’ve found that I’m addicted to the shared experience that music brings. I believe my purpose as a creator is to provoke self-reflection and self-realization for myself and others. Even just a small moment of release where someone is able to feel more alive at that moment. Or even better if a group of people can feel like they are having one collective experience.

Have things improved for artists? What should cities do to empower artists?
Artists of all mediums now have an incredible amount of control over the way they present their art. However, of course, this has introduced a new challenge of standing out in the overwhelming noise that we are surrounded by on a daily basis whether on the internet or in real life. The life of an artist is always difficult, but I do believe there are now more opportunities to find your individual path than ever.

I think the most impactful thing that cities like LA can do for artists is to provide spaces for artist communities to gather and exchange ideas/inspiration/energy. While the internet is, of course, an indispensable part of thriving artistic communities today, I believe physical spaces where people can come together are always going to harbor the best artistry. (Until virtual reality creative spaces are a thing… We’ll see how those work out)

Do you have any events or exhibitions coming up? Where would one go to see more of your work? How can people support you and your artwork?
Social media is where it all goes down (in sometimes embarrassingly candid detail). @ConnorMusarra on all platforms, but I’m on Instagram / Twitter primarily. Let’s be friends.
