Today we’d like to introduce you to Adriana Zagorsky.
Every artist has a unique story. Can you briefly walk us through yours?
I was born and raised in Vienna, Austria to immigrant parents from Bulgaria. I remember being very shy growing up feeling like I didn’t fit in, spending most days drawing or playing with my barbies. It wasn’t until I was in my 20’s that I started painting after moving to San Diego with my family. Regardless of my International Business degree I always found myself doing something creative or visually stimulating such as sewing, taking pictures, or remodeling my living environment. I have always had the mentality of “well I don’t see anything I like so I might as well make it myself” or at least try. My early paintings started out with a flair for extravagant dresses and beautiful women. From there I explored still lives such as candles and various styles of shoes or sexy corsets. It seems my common theme consists of the early Renaissance period and such. Perhaps growing up in Vienna, surrounded by such beauty and history the impressionable images have subconsciously stuck with me and reveal themselves until this day in my paintings. It wasn’t until later in life that I found the courage and support to open up an art gallery. I believe my balanced mix of creativity, good business sense, and people skills have allowed me to follow my dream. I am happily running a boutique gallery in Solana Beach, CA along with the help of my recent addition of an art director/manager. I am currently representing five other artists in addition to selling my own work. I wanted to cater to a variety of tastes, and I am continuing to add local and international talent. Most days you can find me painting in the back of the gallery, listening to electronic chill or opera music and chitter chatter from people walking in to admire the art.
Please tell us about your art.
I paint mostly large scale paintings with a mix of acrylic, oil, and charcoal. I work in the back of my gallery where I have canvases and paint messily scattered throughout. Most of the time I work on more than one painting at a time, and I like to work fast. I find the less I think about it and looser I paint the better it turns out. I have been creative since a young girl and have always been an admirer of all things beautiful. I’m sure growing up in Vienna, Austria contributed to my need for visual stimulation. I love taking something old and infusing it with a touch of contemporary. My influence appears to be the Marie Antoinette era since most of my paintings consist of that period. Most of my work reflects a sense of calm even if the subject matter doesn’t concur. I want people to feel a sense of peace and well being when they view my art. I feel that everybody deserves a bit of luxury that makes them feel good.
Do you have any advice for other artists? Any lessons you wished you learned earlier?
I think that art comes in so many forms that the possibilities of expression are abundant. The key to success I believe is to be focused. Whether you are an artist or anything else, get really good at it and focus.
I wish I had that focus early on but better late than never.

People can see my work at my gallery on South Cedros Avenue in Solana Beach and hanging on walls in many beautiful homes. Of course, I’m on social media too!
