Meet Carly Gold

Today we’d like to introduce you to Carly Gold.

Every artist has a unique story. Can you briefly walk us through yours?
I began competitive figure skating when I was eight years old, and for the next 12 years of my life, I was completely dedicated to the sport. In January of 2016, I competed at the US Championships at the Senior Level. This was my long-term goal in the sport, and after accomplishing it, I decided to retire from competition and attend college. While it was difficult to take a step away from the sport that dominated my entire life growing up, it gave me a chance to explore other interests of mine! After taking an introductory class at Santa Monica College, I fell in love with photography. Since 2016, I have developed a passion for capturing the beautiful California landscapes, local wildlife, portraits of friends, and action shots of figure skating competitions and shows. While photography is currently just a hobby of mine, I would love to turn it into a career after completing my Business Degree from California State University, Fullerton.

Please tell us about your art.
My images often contain vibrant colors, movement, closeups, and overall warm tones. There is never a shortage of inspiration in Southern California, so I try to carry my camera with me at all times for this reason! I find that the photos I take often evoke the mood I was feeling when I captured them, and I’d like to think that this translates to others as well.

Choosing a creative or artistic path comes with many financial challenges. Any advice for those struggling to focus on their artwork due to financial concerns?
I am attending college to get a degree in Finance. While I do enjoy the field, I suppose I really just want to get a degree in something “secure.” For the time being, I would like to keep photography a passion instead of having to rely on it as a livelihood. However, I really do believe that if you work hard and are passionate, anything is possible!

How or where can people see your work? How can people support your work?
I post most of my work on Instagram and Facebook. My Instagram handle is @carlygoldphotography, and my Facebook page is Carly Gold Photography. I do sell prints of my images, and my contact information is available on both social media platforms if interested.
