Art & Life with Eileen Noonan

Today we’d like to introduce you to Eileen Noonan.

Eileen, please kick things off for us by telling us about yourself and your journey so far.
I am a self taught artist. I paint full time out of my home studio. Though I only been painting professionally for a few years I have always created. I believe we create to connect. Whether creative energy is channeled into cooking a meal, organizing a gathering, helping with a cause close to our hearts or simply offering a listening ear, creation seems to be the vehicle to manifest connection. What I have now come to understand is that this creative energy was producing, not only connection, but transformation. If it saw sadness, it penetrated the energy and transformed it into a moment of understanding. When it felt others pain, with maybe a touch or a warm energy within to rest, it created relief. Now, this energy is my partner in coping with grief. I lost my son four years ago so I paint full time now because the energy that is constantly welling up in me needs transformation… A mothers grief is constant and never-ending. So I paint, I paint to transform grief to a lightness, a joy. My story is one that some would think sad and yes it is sad but also quite beautiful

Can you give our readers some background on your art?
I am a multimedia abstract artist but my primary medium is acrylic paint. I paint on canvas and paper of varying sizes. My process is completely intuitive, so much so I often close my eyes while painting. I paint as a form of alchemy. I take the energetic force of my grief, not the sadness just the energy, unattached to the original emotion, and attach it to an energy of love, joy, and connection. I then express this through a painting. I want to paint something fresh, that has not been seen before, an unseen energy now seen. My interest is to be a positive force on this plant and I want to bring joy, calm, comfort and of course interest to the observer.

Any advice for aspiring or new artists?
– Mix your own paints, colors are energy, create the ones that resonate with you and what you are trying to express.
– Paint for you, not for likes.
– Not every painting is going to work. The ones that don’t are your teachers.
– Take intentional breaks, get out of your head and the studio and take a walk everyday, head up, breathe and be in that moment.
