Meet Cassandra Carlopio of Go In Meditations in Santa Monica

Today we’d like to introduce you to Cassandra Carlopio.

Cassandra, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I have always been interested in yoga and meditation, however, I pursued an education in clinical psychology in Australia, and found myself in private practice. I noticed that talking about problems was of little help to people in easing anxiety or finding peace, so I started incorporating meditation techniques into my sessions. This was really well received and helped people significantly.

I then made a move to California, and immersed myself in various meditation traditions, including yoga nidra, and found that people responded really well to the practice. After a few years of teaching meditation, I noticed that people who used to have trouble sleeping were able to fall asleep quicker and easier, as a result of their meditation practice.

I did more research, started talking to people about their sleep issues, and discovered that a key component to being able to fall asleep and reach a deep, restful sleep, was feeling safe and being in a calm state. I started collaborating with a great medical institute – The Breathe Institute – to help people calm their mind and relax their body, and create a sense of safety around sleep.

The results were dramatic, with people completely turning their sleep issues around. So I created my private practice, helping people with sleep issues, anxiety and chronic pain, which is going really well. And I am creating a meditation app, as I cannot be everywhere at once, to really support people in resolving issues around sleep and anxiety.

Has it been a smooth road?
It has been a mainly smooth road for me, for which I am really grateful. My main challenge has been the logistical and business end of things – learning to run my own business was something I never dreamed I would be doing, and I had a lot of skills and knowledge that I needed to acquire.

It’s been a great challenge for me and has made me grow in organizational skills, negotiation, accounting, marketing, etc. The more right-brain, creative and client work has always come easily, but the left-brain analytical was underdeveloped when I started.

Now, I can happily say I am more skilled in those areas now, with still plenty of room for improvement.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Go In Meditations – tell our readers more, for example, what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
We offer meditation, courses and consulting to individuals, groups, and corporations to help improve their wellbeing, sleep quality and productivity, through evidence-based practical tools that work.

I’m proud that we value a multi-disciplinary and collaborate approach to wellness and health, through partnering with experts in various fields, including medical and performance consulting, as each person, each company is unique and needs to be addressed as such. I’m also really proud of offering meditations that are accessible to the general public, with no fluffy language, a strong base in science, and really effective for improving sleep.

I have so many people say to me regularly “previously, I hated meditation and couldn’t sit still, but I can do it now with you, and it’s changing my life” and “before working with you, it took me forever to fall asleep, but now I look forward to bedtime, because I know I can easily drift into a deep sleep”. These results from clients are the reason I do what I do.

Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
I love the nature we have so close to our fingertips – I hike in Malibu regularly, do day trips to Ojai, Big Bear, and Joshua tree.

I’m still amazed by how many incredible places that are a day trip away from LA. I love to weather (who doesn’t!?), the access to world-class health and wellness services, and the community of creative, values-driven entrepreneurs.

What I like least is the air quality, the traffic, the staggering gap between the wealthy and the poor, and the fast-pace life that many people live.
