Meet Riadh Hamdi

Today we’d like to introduce you to Riadh Hamdi.

Riadh, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
As a young boy, living in Tunisia, I was the youngest one out of five kids living with my mom and dad. My father, a school teacher, provided what he could but there was never enough money or food to feed us all. I would get home after playing soccer barefooted, and ask my mother what was for dinner and she would cry because there was nothing to feed us. Being the youngest child in Tunisia is tough because you are always the last one to eat or get anything really.

Like I mentioned I loved playing soccer, so I always had a very competitive spirit. The experience of going to bed almost every night hungry made me determined to find a better life for my mother and myself. I was working as a personal trainer in Tunisia a client suggested I go to America on a trip a group was taking there and I knew I had to make that happen. A donation in the amount of $1,400 was raised for me by clients, friends, and family. I was so grateful and humbled by that. I knew I was going to make the most out of this gift that was given to me.

Once I came to America, I only had $2 in my pocket, but that did not stop me from making the decision to not get on that bus back to the airport. The group I came with thought I was crazy, but they did not understand how determined I was to make something of myself here in America. I walked around with only knowing one word, “job.” Finally finding the one person who would take a chance on me, I slept on the floor in their restaurant and cleaned the toilets.

Fast forward, I now own a chain of juice bars inside LA Fitness gyms across SoCal, written two books and in the middle of a 3rd, and I have created a consulting business for Instagram, which is taking off really fast and is doing tremendously well. I have a wife and two beautiful daughters. They mean everything to me and actually keep me going and striving for more. I plan on leaving a legacy for my daughters.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
No, to say the least. There were times that I felt so stuck, but nothing could keep me from striving towards my dreams. I notice that many people think they can dream only in the night. I dream all day. Struggles I faced were lack of food, shelter and a warm bed.

In business, in the beginning, I thought the business was for me, and I realized that it is for customers. I had to really learn what they wanted and what was going to make them come back again rather than go to Jamba Juice. It was a lot of trial and error, a huge learning curve.

We’d love to hear more about what you do.
Today, I am focusing on my consulting business helping people work on their Instagram accounts. I specialize in helping people tell their story. I curate their photos and create a brand surrounding their business or personal story.

I help people go from zero followers and interaction to having hundreds of “likes” and followers. Hard work, consistency, hunger, determination and the one thing I always say is I want to be different not better. I want to stand out above the rest.

If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
The one thing that I want to do is duplicate myself instead of duplicating the system. Basically, I am always looking for myself everywhere.

I do wish I had taken some risks sooner than I did. I wish I would have opened my business earlier, taken the risk. I wish I would have listened more than I talked. It’s not about me, it’s about others.

Customers are first, employees second, and me, the owner, last. I always put myself first, and I wish I had not of taken so long to learn this lesson.
