Meet Lawrence Moore

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lawrence Moore.

Lawrence, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I was born in San Francisco and raised in the Bay Area. I graduated from the California State University of Sacramento with a double major in Communications and Public Relations. After my first long and very fun weekend visit many years ago, I spontaneously decided to move to Los Angeles in 1993.

Upon my arrival, my very first job was at the prestigious Four Seasons Hotel in Beverly Hills as a cocktail waitress in the Hotel Lounge. After working for the Four Seasons for several years, I got a call from a friend that I worked with at the Hotel inviting me to come work with him at his father’s restaurant CHAYA Brasserie.

So, I officially joined the CHAYA Restaurant Group in 1996, where my life changed completely and where I continued to work for the next fourteen years. While at The CHAYA Restaurant Group, I worked my way up from floor server to General Manager, then moved to the Corporate Office where I became the Executive Director of Marketing and the Vice President of Operations for the company in 2000.

I then oversaw the Marketing Department and all restaurant operations in Los Angeles and San Francisco for the company for the next ten years which was incredibly exciting, but also challenging, as there were very few women in my type of position at that time.

During my tenure at CHAYA, I also became a partner on the original M Café de Chaya opening team which was a concept that was created by the CHAYA Restaurant Group in 2003 and was then launched in 2005. M Café is a café style restaurant best known for introducing Angelenos to contemporary macrobiotic cuisine.

During this time, I was the Executive Director of Promotion & Marketing for both M Café Partners and the CHAYA Restaurant Group simultaneously for over five years, until I decided to take a leap in my career and I left both companies to start my own company in August 2009.

Today, I am the Founder and Principal of Lawrence Moore & Associates which officially launched in 2010. Lawrence Moore & Associates is a Public Relations and Marketing Strategy Agency that specializes in restaurants, hospitality, proper cocktails, and spirits.

When I started Lawrence Moore & Associates, I wanted to focus on my strengths and wanted the company to be a unique one-stop shop specifically for restaurants and proper cocktail bars that offered public relations and marketing strategy, along with a full list of additional services including online reputation and social media management, photography, graphic design, and much more.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It has definitely never been a completely smooth road, but it has definitely been a rewarding one on many levels. Public Relations is all about relationships; relationships with our clients, relationships with the media – writers, editors, producers, bloggers and influencers, and more. Building and maintaining these relationships is a very big part of our job, along with always looking ahead and creating new relationships, which allows us to always be meeting new creative people that we get to potentially work with.

Also, because we focus on restaurants, cocktail bars, and hospitality specifically, Los Angeles has become one of the most competitive and exciting foods and cocktail cities in the country. This can bring challenges but also forces us to continuously dig deeper to come up with exciting new creative pitches and promotions for each of our clients.

Over the last eight years Lawrence Moore & Associates has become a full service, results-oriented restaurant and hospitality public relations and marketing strategy company that works with each client individually to define, create and implement prominent public relations and creative marketing campaigns that make sense for each individual concept and that ultimately increase each of our client’s foot traffic, visibility and positive recognition.

Due to my operational and promotional background in restaurants and hospitality, all of our clients have come to Lawrence Moore & Associates via personal referral, and we say this thankfully and very, very humbly. One of the things that I am most proud of is that each member of our LM&A team each has had restaurant experience and has worked in hospitality.

This has become a huge advantage, as this helps to create a trust and understanding between ourselves and our clients, as they know that we all understand how things work in the restaurant industry and the operational pressure that each of our clients faces on a day-to-day basis.

So, what’s next? Any big plans?
I am extremely grateful for everything thus far and am looking forward to what this next year brings. Every year we try to take on a new kind of hospitality client that we believe in so that we can push ourselves to tap into a new area of the industry and the media.

There always seems to be a trend or something new that we learn each year and this year has taught me to persevere and always be thankful.
