Meet Laura Moll

Today we’d like to introduce you to Laura Moll.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I got my first camera six years ago when I traveled to Lima, Peru. I lived in Lima for about five months, and during my time there I photographed anything and everything. I was enamored by the way I saw things differently and creatively when using my camera.

As soon as I got back to LA, I began looking for opportunities to get involved in the business side of photography. I interned for a well-known photographer in Orange County while I worked in retail. I leveraged every opportunity I could get to learn more about photography, both the artistic and the business side. I slowly began building a portfolio and a client base of my own.

From there, every opportunity lead to one or two more opportunities and my business has multiplied exponentially. Although it’s been a long journey, I feel like my business took off overnight, and I never imagined that I would be where I’m at today.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It’s been fairly smooth, but it definitely has not been obstacle-free. Most of the struggles I faced were internal. Rather than physical roadblocks, I sometimes struggle with being over-critical of my own work and where I’m at in my business. Criticism can be hard to handle, even if it comes from yourself.

We’d love to hear more about what you do.
I’m a lifestyle photographer specializing in engagements, weddings, maternity, newborn, family, branding, and social media content. A common piece of feedback that I get from a number of my clients is in regards to my attention to detail. I’m a sucker for all the little details, whether it may be the way a couple holds hands, the mother of the groom crying during the ceremony, a newborn’s eyelashes and little feet, the way a family interacts, etc.

The two things that make me most proud of my business are seeing my work in major publications, and positive feedback from my clients. I really treasure my clients and the friendship that I’ve built with them throughout the years. I don’t just show up and take pictures, I become fully invested in my client’s lives and their stories.

Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
I don’t have a specific memory in mind, but I do value the time I spent traveling with my family growing up. I’m the youngest of four, and I always loved spending time with my brothers and sister.

Seeing the world has become a passion of mine, and I’ve carried it into my life as an adult with my own little family.
