Meet Deanna Pak

Today we’d like to introduce you to Deanna Pak.

Deanna, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
My parents were immigrants/refugees from Laos and Thailand after the communists took over, which led them to stay in the San Francisco Bay Area. Then, I was born in Oakland, CA. I first performed a Laotian dance in elementary school, After that, I didn’t step on the stage again until 8th grade, when I started taking jazz, modern, ballet, and hip hop dance. I fell in love with expressing stories on the stage through art, which led to high school dance productions, musicals, and acting. After studying philosophy at UCSB for college, I decided I wanted a career in entertainment, particularly acting. And here I am.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It has been a challenging road because there is not “one” path for success in acting.

Between balancing a bunch of side jobs early on in my career to working my butt off for the “possible” next gig (auditions), it can take a toll if I don’t focus on staying mentally healthy through the highs and lows.

Nothing is guaranteed or even likely, which is also exciting. It makes you appreciate every accomplishment more.

We’d love to hear more about your business.
I am primarily known as an actress. I’ve done many films, but I am currently getting into more network television work. I am most proud of my versatility as an actress, as well as producing some of my own projects to let my voice be heard.

What sets me apart from others is my ability to adapt to change, whether that is career based or personal. With the constant evolution of the industry, especially in technology, it’s important to be malleable and fun as an artist, but also consistently professional.

I am known more for my work in dramatic movies, but I love comedy as well and have been working more on that lately. I also add comedic elements in videos I post on social media. Because why not?

What were you like growing up?
Growing up, most people thought I was quiet and shy. I can be quiet when I don’t have anything to say, but I never saw myself as actually shy. I like to be free and explore life, travel, and food.
