Today we’d like to introduce you to Jess Tittle.
Jess, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I’ve always been an artistic kid and realized when I was 14 that hairdressing could be a career. I enrolled in a cosmetology school when I was 16 and graduated when I was 18 and have been working for myself ever since then.
I spent 4 years working in Downtown Fullerton and building a clientele. I got so tired of doing the same thing every day and didn’t feel challenged to become better. I guess I was just too comfortable.
I started working part-time in Downtown LA and eventually became full-time and moved out there. A little over a year ago now, I started working with a hair color company called Pulp Riot as an independent educator and platform artist. I found my people they have changed my life and have given me so many opportunities to create and travel and inspire others and personally grow in a way I could never imagine.
January 2018, one of my old co-works from OC Laura Mussche and I spend up to a salon in downtown Fullerton called trichology. Its been a wild ride but overall so rewarding. So here I am now, running two businesses in LA/OC and doing independent classes as well as educating for Pulp Riot as an educator and platform artist. Truly living my best life.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Haha!! It’s never a smooth road. Life is so hard, and your dreams don’t just get handed to you. This past year has been the hardest thing I’ve experienced.
I have daily struggles I deal with but its also part of the reward and keeps me going. I lose a lot of sleep now, and I cry a lot! But hey, I’m human. This hardest part is trying to put my 100% into everything I do… It’s impossible to without dying and knowing when I do, give 100% to something I’m lacking elsewhere. I’m thankful for the people who keep me sane.
We’d love to hear more about what you do.
My personal business is me. I’ve built my brand on what love to do and most of all I get to talk to rad people all day and give them their dream hair and those happy tears at the end of this appointment with me is literally the best feeling I’ve experienced. I specialize in creative color. I love to use my artistic side in creating custom colors for my clients.
Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
Damn, yes, absolutely! First and foremost, Jake tittle my best friend and husband. I’d be dead without him.
My sister Hallee Morvan always dropping everything for me to be a model or puts up with my 8hrs hair appointments and then 1-hr photoshoot.
Laura Mussche for believing in me years ago and pushing me and now, being the best co-owner.
David & Alexis Thurston (owners of Pulp Riot) for creating the best goddamn company our industry has seen and taking a chance on me. They are truly family to me and more than just fearless leaders. Also, the entire pulp riot family I am thankful for you.
There are sooo many more people I could name.
