Meet Tiffany Cole

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tiffany Cole.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Tiffany. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I’ve always been a creative person. I started in dance at age 3 and played drums in a punk band during my teen years. But after I turned 18 I felt like I needed to go and get a job and leave my artistic side behind.

For years I had all this creative energy bottled up inside and about three years ago I met an abstract painter who brought me some old art supplies. I picked up my first charcoal pencil and I’ve been obsessed ever since. I am self-taught and learned all of what I know from trial and error, the advice of my friends in the art world and a passion to keep getting better.

The community of artists and art lovers on Instagram has been such an integral part of my growth and work in the last few years and just plain being willing to put myself out there, constantly meet new people and continuously create has really been the simple way I’ve now made this my profession.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
This has been the toughest thing I’ve ever done. I am very hard on myself and it is a lot of work to not only be an artist and grow your craft but to also be your own manager, salesperson, PR rep, etc.

Also, being a woman in this male-dominated field has brought its own challenges and I’m still navigating how to deal with that. I try to not get too obsessed with where I want to be and focus and enjoy the journey, the highs and the lows.

We’d love to hear more about your business.
I am a fine artist, specializing in portrait/figurative work, mixed with abstract. Much of my work is commission based and it is such a beautiful process to create a piece for someone and watch the joy and aesthetics that it brings to their life.

And I’ve come to love and embrace the emotional journey of creating pieces and showing in galleries, where I sell my original art as well as selling prints and originals via my website.

What were you like growing up?
Coming home from school every day and making films with my friends. I probably have over 100 tapes from that time in my life.
