Today we’d like to introduce you to Nico Casavecchia.
Every artist has a unique story. Can you briefly walk us through yours?
I was born on May 13th, 1981, the day the Pope was shot. Big day for both of us. I’m self-taught what means I feel eternally inadequate and perpetually trying new things. I’m a filmmaker, designer, and Illustrator living in Los Angeles now, I lived in Barcelona, Treviso, and Buenos Aires before that. All these places have influenced my work and left me something.
Please tell us about your art.
I use visual triggers to get inspiration, it can be a picture I took or something I saw in the street. I tend to remix my past work in new ways, the result tends to be a collage of things, fragments of images that loosely relate to each other. In my illustration work, I use free association as the basis for everything. I try to free my mind from thinking on theme or ideas.
Choosing a creative or artistic path comes with many financial challenges. Any advice for those struggling to focus on their artwork due to financial concerns?
I’m lucky to have my “other” career as a filmmaker to pay the bills. My visual work is not very commercial and I feel this gives me the freedom to explore new ideas.
How or where can people see your work? How can people support your work?
