Today we’d like to introduce you to Meghan Develyn.
Every artist has a unique story. Can you briefly walk us through yours?
You know that common phrase, “life is too short”? Well, as cliche as it is – I recently left my corporate job at the thought that, yes, life is really short. I went to college to pursue marketing in the fashion industry, I came, I saw, I worked my ass off, and I went. I recently started a new journey in freelance photography and marketing, per the idea that there’s too much beauty in the world to sit at a desk for 10+ hours a day. I am not knocking anyone who chooses this lifestyle, I just decided it wasn’t for me – at least not right now.
Please tell us about your art.
I use my passion for people, art, light, color and experiences to create photographs. Some photographers have a niche and some are talented enough to photograph anything and do it justice. My niche is definitely photographing people, but I’d say I’m working on streamlining my direction – especially after just now pursuing the art after many, many years of being passionate about it.
While I appreciate a colorful sunset or sparkling river, there’s nothing that makes me feel more pleased and proud than when I am able to capture a photograph of someone, that tells a story – even if I am the only one who understands it.
We often hear from artists that being an artist can be lonely. Any advice for those looking to connect with other artists?
I think everyone get’s a little lonely sometimes, artist or not. Photographing people makes life a little less lonely, for me. I’ve partnered with many incredible and inspiring artists that truly are what makes what I do so magical.
However, I do really enjoy alone time – especially a late night, good tunes, and photo editing.
My advice would be to just get out there. Take a walk around your area and don’t be afraid to ask a stranger to collaborate.
