Meet Michael Morgan

Today we’d like to introduce you to Michael Morgan.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
My story started in Orange County. During college, I started working at a small music venue where I quickly joined a band, wrote songs, toured the country, got a manager and toward the end of college, jumped headfirst into writing and producing music all over L.A. After about 5 years of doing that I had some success to show for it. From songs placed with artists to ad campaigns and TV shows. Getting a few wins under my belt and honing my craft, helped me open the door into the rooms with bigger artists.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
The music industry, in general, is a hard industry to crack when you’re not well connected right off the bat. So my strategy was simple – double down on my ideas, push for the great ones and pump up the workflow to get me to where I want to be.  But to be honest, being a songwriter who can’t sing has been a massive struggle.

Anyone with me? I can hear exactly how the melody and lyrics should be sung in my head and then once the air leaves my lungs… it’s not pretty. Luckily, I work with some crazy talented humans who can translate my horrible singing.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Michael Morgan story. Tell us more about the business.
I’m a music producer, a songwriter and I specialize in working with and cultivating up-and-coming artists. Some of the biggest names about to rule the industry, IMO. Artists like Kelsy Karter, Roy English and TRACES — get familiar!

These people are all insanely talented in totally different ways and something they’ve taught me, and something I am most proud of — has been my ability to mold myself to whatever artist I am working with. Being able to bring someone else’s vision to life and helping them see it bigger than they can themselves is what I love to do.

Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
I have had a case of beginners luck throughout my life. I can pick up something and be pretty good at it, but it has taken hard work and hearing a lot of “No’s” to actually get me to where I want to be. I’ve learned that luck can only get you so far.
