Meet Justin and Taylor Norris of LIT Method in West Hollywood

Today we’d like to introduce you to Justin and Taylor Norris.

Justin and Taylor, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I have been in the fitness industry for over 10 years and started out as a personal training for Golds Gym. I quickly got promoted to fitness director and was recognized as one of the youngest fitness directors in Southern California.

After being featured on the Dr. Phil show, I started on my journey to open my own personal training business in Beverly Hills. Fast forward to 2012 when I met my partner Taylor, who had just graduated from Parsons School of Design and recently entered the fitness industry as well. Together we started training in a small boutique gym, focusing on working with clients that have suffered from pre and post injuries.

Together we identified a lapse in the fitness industry, the void was that no one was specializing in injury prevention. We decided to team up and create a workout method that would help people with injury prevention, rehabbing pre-existing injuries, fixing muscle imbalances, and achieve this in a group setting, thus LIT Method was born.

Completely self-funded, we decided to drain our bank accounts and take the risk of opening our own facility. Together we are on a mission to change the way people approach fitness with no running, no jumping, and no weights.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
To be completely honest, when we first opened up LIT Method everyone told us we would fail because we specialized in pt, not group fitness. One of our biggest struggles was securing a location as we were two twenty-five year olds with little credit, a brand new business, and little financials to show. However, after being rejected by dozens of landlords, we found a location that was willing to work with us if we personal guaranteed the entire lease and came up with a very heavy security deposit but we made it happen and took the risk!

When we started to build out our space, the contractor we were working with completely screwed us and ended up stealing thousands of dollars, and delayed our space from opening for months. In addition to our contractor situation, we had to find people who believed in our new company as much as we and that was a very difficult task to do.

Overall, all of our struggles have taught us that as long as we stick together, nothing can stop us!

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about LIT Method – what should we know?
LIT stands for [Low – Impact – Training] our method is designed to “Build you, not break you”. While other regimens can break you down over time, we felt the need to create a sustainable method that strengthens, empowers and corrects you with No Running, No Jumping, and No Weights. With intelligence and direction, we naturally rebuild the body and change the status quo of how people think about fitness.

LIT Method is the foundation for a lifelong workout; we provide a safe, functional and effective workout that minimizes the impact on bones and joints while sculpting and strengthening your muscles.

Our biggest accomplishment to date is starting a movement of low impact training and raising brand awareness that people can feel and function at their very best through our method. We are also very proud to announce we have expanded our retail locations and recently launched an online platform for people to access our workouts.

Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
As small business owners, we believe it is imperative to have a mentor or outside counsel to help guide you through the uncertain waters of entrepreneurship. Luckily, my father Mark Gainor has played a very big role in the way we scale and operate our business. I would also like to thank all of our clients and staff for their tremendous support and efforts to make this method a movement!

Hi guys! I think your LIT Method is awesome! I’m now 42 years old and just had a knee replacement surgery. I was an athlete growing up and tore my ACL twice and didn’t rehab it like so should have. I continued doing all sorts of heavy impact exercises which is why I wore my knee out and needed it replaced. I just did one of your YouTube videos and it was awesome! I am one month postop and was able to do most everything. Normally, I would bump it up a lot more to get the work out I’d like but even with modifications I still felt like I got a great workout. I am a nurse and fitness instructor with one of my local YMCA’s and typically do low impact workouts with my classes and love the fact that you guys are promoting low impact training! Keep up your good work and thank you for trying to keep people fit while staying safe!
