Meet Bet Palagallo of Other

Today we’d like to introduce you to Bet Palagallo.

Hi Bet, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I created Rage Is So Femme as my own exploration of rage, as I found myself suppressing my rage throughout my life. I had many traumatic events in my life from childhood into adulthood, and never felt that I could or should express my rage. I felt a lot of shame – that it was something to be hidden or it was “bad” to feel. But I realized that the feminine energy (from a societal standpoint aka a male dominated perspective) was always advertised as docile and mothering and to just smile and bear it.

I put the phrase “Rage Is So Femme” on a hat for myself, and so many people stopped me to share about their experiences with their own rage. I decided to make and sell hats, hoodies, and tees with the phrase on them and gather stories about experiences of feminine rage and share them so others feel less alone.

To me, rage is extremely personal. For me, it is clarity.

It burns away all the ancillary thoughts that keep me in a pattern of pacification of myself and others. People do each other wrong. Boundaries are broken. Lies are told. And that warrants an ability to love one’s self enough to move out of that circumstance by reaching in and connecting to why something makes us enraged.

I am from Los Angeles and just recently moved to Amsterdam where I started selling online to a global community. I love to see the stories and shared experiences that I’m committed to sharing to destigmatize feminine rage.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I’m still in the road! I am inviting people in to reflect on something that could really tap into a lot of heaviness to experience the community and power on the other side. I’m also doing this in a new city where I don’t have connections – I’ve had to go back to the 101 of going out to shops and meeting people in real life. I am reaching out to so many people who are aligned with the message to create experiences around the idea. All that energy comes from me, and I love the message, yet sometimes it is hard to get the ball rolling and believe it will roll!

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I have had a storied past – from working in tech to being a trained stunt driver. At the end of the day, I’m someone who isn’t afraid to get something done. Whether it is logistics for an event or production, creating content around something I believe in and don’t see out there in the world, or being creatively expressive through fashion or photography.

We’d love to hear about how you think about risk taking?
I have taken more risks than I can count! I think life is a miracle, and I really value having a beginner’s mindset in my life. I would love it if I had one thing I did consistently and could have more stability in life, but on the other hand I wouldn’t have been a trained stunt driver, or moved across the world. So in that sense, I’m enjoying being my risk-taking self. I don’t think I need to know how something ends to start it, and that has taken me all over the world.
