Meet Jessica Le of GOOD PLACE ACUPUNCTURE

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jessica Le.

Hi Jessica, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My background is in R&D Chemistry, and I worked in many industries including Aerospace, Food Science and Food Labeling, Regulatory Science, Cosmetic Chemistry, and Pharmaceuticals. During the pandemic, like most people, I did some self-reflection and thought about what I wanted to do with my life. A perfect storm of bad luck (injury, getting passed up for a promotion, working overtime every day because I was an essential worker, health issues while not being able to easily access care) brought me to acupuncture, and within a week, I applied and enrolled in classes. A month later, I quit my very stable chemistry job, and went back to school.
I got pregnant in my last term of school, and it encouraged me to take on a bigger class load. I graduated early, pregnant, and valedictorian of my class. I took boards while 39 weeks pregnant, and 10 days later I had a newborn. 3 months later, I started my private practice where I get to help other moms feel more like themselves after they’ve given so much to their families. Recently, I started to expand my practice virtually in order to help people who cannot make it to my clinic. The virtual work I do is based around traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) food therapy, lifestyle changes, and herbal medicine/prescriptions. I decided to dive deeper into TCM food therapy, because I found that even though my patients were coming every week for acupuncture, only the ones who did their homework (eat the foods I recommended, take the herbs, and do the qi gong exercises) noticed REAL change and that the most effective part of the medicine I practice is the lifestyle and not the needles.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Starting a business while freshly postpartum was definitely a struggle. Starting a business in an area where people don’t care about supporting small businesses was even harder. I had 2 patients a week for 8 months. I worked with some marketing strategists, but nothing helped until I started posting more authentic content on Instagram. I did a pop up event in an area where there were not very many Asian people, and I experienced a type of racism that I had not experienced before. The anger I felt fueled me to start posting unpalatable and undiluted TCM content, and it was surprisingly well received (within 2 months I had over 14k new followers on instagram and was booked out for the next month).
I got to find myself and establish my core values through the process.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
My practice is called GOOD PLACE, your body should feel like a good place, and I would like to get you there. I initially started the practice specializing in sports medicine and injury rehab/prevention, but in this season of my life, other moms and women seeking hormonal regulation and support found me. Now, I mainly help women combat burnout, regulate their nervous systems and hormones, while also gaining more energy and feeling more like themselves again.
Because of my background in sports med, food science/nutrition, and acupuncture + herbal medicine, my patients get comprehensive treatment that addresses physical pain with cupping and myofascial release, internal imbalances with acupuncture and herbal medicine, and overall quality of life with a food therapy plan and lifestyle changes/exercises.
I offer in person acupuncture that includes any modality that you need (cupping, body work, acupuncture, ear seeds, moxibustion). I also offer virtual consultations that are more focused on food therapy; patients get an individualized weekly meal plan with breakfasts, lunches, snacks, dinners, and desserts based on their unique TCM diagnosis, a daily TCM routine with ideal times to eat and do activities like qi gong, and an herbal medicine prescription personalized to their individual needs. All of this is done in a sustainable way that fits into the patients life instead of changing their lives completely. I’m a big believer that small, every day changes make big change overall.
I am most proud of all the ways I can reach and help people now. Treatment doesn’t have to just begin and end in Tustin; I have so many international patients now, and I’m so glad that I am able to work with such interesting and awesome women all over the world.

What was your favorite childhood memory?
My grandparents are a big part of my life and were a huge part of my childhood, and I found comfort in them, specifically my grandpa. He is a perfect example of longevity, kindness, and patience. He’s 91 and is still active and so involved in mine and my son’s life. I don’t have a specific favorite childhood memory, but I’ll always remember him picking me up from school and being relieved and excited that it was him, and after school he would make me toast with butter and sugar and I remember feeling safe.
