Today we’d like to introduce you to Nishy Acsell.
Hi nishy, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I started out with hives at a 9-5 job that I kept on trudging along for internal validation. It wasn’t until I went to an improv night at the Second City Hollywood where I was resuscitated, back to feeling emotions other than excitement about drinking. I left my high paying job and decided to follow where I belong wholeheartedly. The part I didn’t know was how hard it was to launch into an entrepreneurial role years after being a sheep. But I worked hard at it: writing, booking shows, writing, having babies. All the things I loved and now I am an entirely different person.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It has been very bumpy. Four years ago I was using cup of noodles as sustenance. I had no idea how to navigate the part where you just don’t make money the first few years. Not even enough to buy an outfit for a job interview if you ever decide to go back. I got a lot of disrespect from people but there were tons of folks who supported me. It is never a smooth road if you are doing the right thing. Unless you’re a Billionaire.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am a stand-up comedian, actress and performer. I am most proud that as of 2026 I’ve done 1,200 shows and counting! When every age group, gender, nationality comes up to me after shows to tell me how much they enjoyed, I feel accomplished. I chose the Psychology degree because I went in with the intention of wanting to help people with inner healing, broken hearts, sadness, lonlieness. And now I get to do that on stage. The room is electric and connected. Everyone’s human experience is connected. I use my life experiences, real things that are raw and also super silly things that you don’t have to use your brain for. I gotchu! And I understand you, beautiful audience!
