Conversations with Mason Picerni

Today we’d like to introduce you to Mason Picerni.

Hi Mason, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My journey in music began with the inspiration of my grandfather, Junior Walker of Junior Walker & the All Stars. His legacy played a major role in shaping my passion for music and motivated me to pursue my own path in the industry.

Over the years, I’ve built relationships with music professionals around the world, allowing me to develop New Space Records into an independent music company that offers a wide range of services comparable to those of major labels. My goal has always been to create a platform where artists can access the resources, guidance, and opportunities they need to develop their careers and bring their visions to life.

At the same time, I’ve continued to grow as an artist. Performing under the name New Space, I’ve spent the past year and a half to two years creating music that represents my evolution, both personally and creatively. I’m preparing to release a dozen singles, followed by an upcoming album that I’m excited to share with the world.

The name New Space Records is closely tied to my identity because I built the company around my own vision and experiences as an artist. I’m Mason Picerni, also known as New Space, and the label reflects the foundation I’ve created and the direction I want to take it. For me, it’s about more than releasing music; it’s about building something that can grow beyond my own career and help other artists succeed as well.

I’m continuing to expand the team and develop new projects, including bringing Brazilian producer Florence Lil Flowers on board full-time. Having talent from different parts of the world involved in the company reflects the international network I’ve built and the global direction I envision for New Space Records. I’m also working closely with and managing Young Sage, helping develop his career and build momentum around his music. Alongside these projects, I’m collaborating with other artists and exploring new opportunities to expand the label’s reach.

My goal for this year and next is to take everything I’ve been building to the next level. I want to break through to a new stage in my career, host larger events, release music more consistently, and continue establishing New Space Records as a recognizable force in the independent music scene. I’ve spent years building the foundation, and now I’m ready to put more of that work into the world—not only through my own music, but through the artists and projects I’m helping bring to life.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
One of the biggest challenges I’ve faced has been learning how to balance everything as I continue to grow New Space Records. Right now, I’m overseeing the label while also developing my own career as an artist, working with my producer, Florence Lil Flowers, and managing Young Sage. Each of these projects requires time, attention, and a hands-on approach, so finding the right balance has been a learning experience.

As the company grows, I’m focused on building the right team and putting people in positions where they can take ownership of specific areas, such as content creation, scheduling, and day-to-day operations. I’ve always been someone who wants to be involved in every aspect of the business, but I understand that growing to the next level means learning to delegate and building a team I can trust.

I see these challenges as a natural part of growth, and I’m excited about what’s ahead. I’ve spent years building the foundation, and now I’m focused on creating a structure that allows me to grow as an artist while continuing to develop New Space Records and the talent I work with.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I have experience across many different areas of the music industry, but I would say my biggest strength is my ability as a creator. I specialize in developing melodies, song structures, lyrics, and concepts, as well as selecting the right production to convey a specific feeling, emotion, or story. For me, creating music is about more than putting words over a beat; it’s about making people feel something and connecting with them through the music.

There are several accomplishments I’m proud of throughout my career. Touring internationally, including performing in Brazil, has been an incredible experience and has shown me how music can connect with people across different cultures. Reaching over one million streams collectively on my record “Top of the World” as New Space has also been a major milestone. Another accomplishment I’m proud of is building our in-house studio, equipped with industry-standard recording equipment and professional plugins, which allows us to create high-quality music and develop projects under the New Space Records umbrella.

Ultimately, I’m proud of how far I’ve come, both as an artist and as an entrepreneur. I have big goals for myself, my label, and the artists I work with. I know there’s still a lot I want to accomplish, and I’m focused on continuing to grow, creating meaningful music, and building something that lasts. I believe that with consistency, hard work, and the right timing, the opportunities I’m working toward will come together.

Can you share something surprising about yourself?
Something that might surprise people who know me through my music is that I also own and help operate a family-owned horseback riding business in beautiful Santa Barbara, California, called Santa Barbara Beach Rides. We have a herd of more than 20 horses and offer beach rides and trail riding experiences throughout the area.

The business has been in my family for years, and taking on a bigger role in it has given me an entirely different perspective on entrepreneurship. We have a loyal clientele that returns year after year, along with new guests coming to experience our rides every day. Over the years, we’ve had the opportunity to host some extraordinary people, including A-list celebrities and members of royal families from different parts of the world.

What I love about this side of my life is that it allows me to step outside the music industry, work with incredible animals, and meet people from all walks of life. Music and horseback riding might seem like two completely different worlds, but both have taught me a lot about business, building relationships, and creating memorable experiences for people. It’s a unique part of my life that most people wouldn’t necessarily associate with me as an artist and record label owner.
