Meet Camille Cabrera of The Valley

Today we’d like to introduce you to Camille Cabrera.

Hi Camille, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
Writing has always been my home. A nest I’ve tended to one branch (book) at a time. At a young age, I fell in love with stories and couldn’t wait to take flight into new, untouched worlds. The funny part? I started to write my own short stories before I eventually graduated to novels. I hadn’t planned to become an author, but I can’t imagine pursuing anything else. Stories offer comfort, safety, and connection. And right now? I can’t imagine a more worthy calling than building a nest where other readers can land and momentarily rest their wings from the uncertainties of life.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I like to tell my students that boats tend to float in port, but that’s rarely the point. In many ways, the sharp waves and uncertain storms have turned me into a seasoned author. I have found breaking into the market, finding readers, and even keeping readers shifts with the tides. But to be fair, that’s mostly because I love casting a wide mystery-focused net. For example, I am about to publish my sixth cozy mystery novel. Earlier this year, I already published two standalone new adult mystery novels. Each day offers a new opportunity to sail into the unknown. And who am I to stop my journey in favor of temporary comfort? Sorry, readers, I have no intention of narrowing down my passion for mystery to just one spectacular subgenres… I want it all.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
As a bestselling indie mystery author, I can’t believe how many readers enjoy my work. I had never anticipated such a dedicated following. One of my favorite things about attending book festivals and panels comes from seeing familiar readers. I love catching up with fans and discussing the newest book. Today, I am a 40-time #1 Amazon bestseller, and it still doesn’t feel real. I’m proud of this journey because I’ve forged many connections with readers over the years. And to me, building connections and sharing stories is at the heart of the human experience.

I’m excited about my upcoming novel titled The Candy Cane Island Caper. The book is already garnering a notable amount of attention and some sites are calling it one of the most promising new Cozy Christmas mysteries of 2026. It’s set for release in early December and already has the most preorders of any of my books to date! What an honor to have readers willing to order a story before it’s even managed to settle onto a bookshelf.

Do you have any advice for those just starting out?
Remember to stay playful with your passion. The world loves to point at productivity and profit for indicators of success. Fine. But, if it’s art… let it shine because it comes from your heart. I am saying this as someone who’s learned how to contend with outside pressures threatening to change the stories for the sake of popularity. Sometimes, I’ve been told to even withhold publishing stories because they’re gambles or potentially too odd for mainstream readers. But I’ve always found that the stories I’ve loved most deeply are the ones that came to life because I followed my passion. The more I fling myself into the unknown, the more of myself I find.
