Today we’d like to introduce you to Harry Karidis.
Hi Harry, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I’ve always thought of myself as a content creator with an agenda. The goal has never been just to make something look cinematic. It’s to create messages that inspire people and move them toward positive change.
That’s guided my career in marketing and creative work, including building my business, Karidis Productions. Along the way, I became fascinated by how quickly technology is reshaping the way we produce and consume stories. It’s literally changing the narrative, and I kept wondering whether we as people are keeping up.
That question became my podcast, Present Shock. The name nods to Alvin Toffler’s Future Shock, the idea that technology can move faster than society can absorb it. On the show, I sit down with an entrepreneurial community to explore how AI, robotics, and emerging tech are colliding with our culture, our economy, even our faith. We’re past seventy episodes, and every one leaves me with more questions than answers, which is kind of the point.
That same drive led me to create Shock Tank — the name is a play on SWARMING Humans Optimizing for Collaborative Knowledge. The idea is to bring together a small team of experienced experts, matched to a specific challenge, and give people not just conversation but an actual, executable roadmap they can act on. It’s collaboration with a purpose, which is really what all my work comes back to.
What drives the work is simple. Commitment, intelligence, and skill are the foundation, but love of play and experimentation lead to real discovery. And I’m happiest collaborating with people who challenge themselves and are always chasing new experiences.”
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
No, it hasn’t been easy — but I’ve come to believe anything worth doing never is.
Being an entrepreneur can be a lonely venture. And my particular challenge is one I brought on myself: I never picked a lane. If I’d truly picked one, I probably would’ve just been a cinematographer and stopped there. Instead, I became the producer, the director, the editor, the businessman, all of it. I’m interested in everything, and I love doing all of it, which is a far harder path than choosing one craft and going deep.
For a long time I saw that as a liability. The specialist’s path is cleaner, easier to explain at a dinner party. But I’ve made peace with it — more than that, I’ve realized it’s the whole point. I like to say: aesthetics without function, and you’ve probably got an artist. Function without aesthetics, and you’ve probably got an engineer. But aesthetics with function, that’s a designer. And that’s why I’ve always loved the humanities.
I’m a polymath at heart. I refuse to choose between beauty and purpose, or between any of the disciplines I’ve fallen for along the way. It’s the discipline that refuses to choose between beauty and purpose. Robert Heinlein wrote that ‘specialization is for insects,’ and I’ve always felt that in my bones. The world I’m most excited about, where AI is reshaping how we create and communicate, rewards exactly the person who can live in that overlap and connect the dots nobody else is connecting.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
Here’s the full tightened draft with that change in:
“If I had to name my specialty, it’s the thing I could never narrow down: I connect disciplines. My work lives at the intersection of storytelling, technology, and business, and what I’m good at is translating between those worlds. Sitting with a creative team, a boardroom, and a room full of engineers, and helping them understand each other.
Day to day, that’s marketing and creative work through my company, Karidis Productions. But lately I’m best known for Present Shock, my podcast on how society struggles to keep pace with accelerating technology, especially AI. It’s where my instinct for storytelling and the craft of persuasion meet the biggest narrative shift of our time.
What I’m most proud of is Shock Tank, a venture I built to turn that conversation into action: a small team of experts, a specific challenge, and an executable roadmap rather than just ideas.
What sets me apart is simple. Most people are either the artist or the engineer. I’ve built my career in the overlap, making the technology serve the story, and the story serve real results.
Can you share something surprising about yourself?
Most people know one side of me, the marketer, the director, or the podcast host. What surprises them is that I’m all three. I’m a Directors Guild member, I run my own creative agency, and I host Present Shock, a podcast about how society keeps up with AI.
