Check Out Amber’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Amber.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I started doing nails in 2020, during Covid as a hobby. I used to love painting and drawing and keeping up with my maintenance so when I figured out I can do both, I was so extremely happy to be able to be creative and show it off on an everyday basis. I began by practicing on my mother and grandmother, while I was so extremely nervous, I was determined to get the process perfected. It took me a whole year of practicing on friends and family to finally get comfortable, to which it slowly started showing in my work and how I have improved from basic nails to intricate designs. I then began to have such a strong love and passion for doing nails, that I decided it’s time for me to take it fully serious and go to cosmetology school to get my education and credentials. While being in school, I would post all my work through social medias like instagram, Pinterest and TikTok, and lucky enough it reached a lot of people’s socials. From that, I began to grow my page and become a full time nail tech with a booked out schedule.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It has not been a smooth road whatsoever. One thing no one tells you about running your own business is how much pressure you have on yourself 24 hours of the day. Even when you are “off” of work, you still find yourself working. In my experience, I can do a full 9 hour work day, and go home but still will be replying to clients, editing videos for socials, cleaning after hours, etc. As I do have such a lovely support from those around me, it’s hard to relate to others about what I go through with running a business. You have to prepared to handle anything professionally, handle finances, your own social media backgrounds, your own studio/suite, your clients, it’s a constant work state.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am an editorial nail technician. I create and publish nail designs on nail forms for a living. I do all creative designs from 2d art, to 3rd art and sculpting different objects onto an inch of a nail. I also curate sets to any inspiration my clients desire! Want a nail design that’s the same design to your purse? I got you! I have the ability to create all designs. All my clients love how I can give them nails to the exact inspiration they bring in and the feedback I hear is always positive. My most proudest moments is when my work has been noticed by so many and gets me to as far as working beside the original creators of gel x; aprés nails! It has been one of my goals to work alongside, this brand because I’ve started my career using their products and haven’t stopped since. And what sets me apart from others is the ability to work quickly but give amazing work. I’m able to do a complex, neat designs in the span of 2 hours, and to add, the nails can last up to a full month!

What are your plans for the future?
In the near future, I plan to create my own business in nail products. I would love to have my own polish brand that sticks to its standard. I want to create full coverage nail polishes that become so popular and talked about in the nail community. I would love to also open my own salons around the Los Angeles area with mutiple independents nail artists and create salon spaces that are welcoming and professional for an environment. I also hope to reach new nail technicians my skills and knowledge of what it’s like being a nail technician and how to build your name as a business. I am looking forward to doing these plans because it’s something that will be done.
