Daily Inspiration: Meet Nicole Briggs

Today we’d like to introduce you to Nicole Briggs.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I was gifted Pilates private lessons from a boss in 2002. After dancing for many years through back pain, I was reintroduced to it and was amazed at the healing powers of it. I gained strength and a better understanding about my body. While working in a physical therapy clinic, I decided to purse a Pilates education. Once certified I worked with many patients from the clinic who were ready to transition to maintenance routines to hold their progress. Several working professional clients’ goals include staying active for as long as possible and I help them do that through the Pilates method. Training new teachers to carry on the exercises, skills, and personal attention we give at Strong Body Pilates is a focus we are expanding on.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
There have been many obstacles throughout the years, including COVID-19 closures, business structure changes, and the death of my mentor, Jay Grimes, who was a huge influence in the studio and on myself. I try to honor him everyday by being the best teacher I can.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
We teach clients to feel better and move better in their bodies. Pilates is a holistic approach, meaning we do not just teach exercises, but touch on many aspects of life that affect the body and individualize the workout for them. For example, someone who sits many hours a day may have a tight low back due to pressure and the upper body not lifting off the lower. Posture support is important for this person and to stretch out the spots that have gotten tight.

We bring compassion to someone who comes in from not sleeping all night. Giving this client a needed boost of energy is the ticket for the day.

We help bring awareness to how a client picks up their child.

We are one of the few studios in Los Angeles that has all the Pilates designed apparatus. Need to exercise your fingers? We have an apparatus just for that.

Experienced teachers who teach other teachers and are constantly learning themselves is one of our biggest assets.

I am most proud of my clients who stick with their practice and continue to find what they are capable of.

What do you like and dislike about the city?
I love the diversity of our city; the people and all the many activities that are constantly available. I least like driving in our city. Luckily, I can walk to work.
