Hidden Gems: Meet Jordan Piantedosi of Beautiful Genius LLC

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jordan Piantedosi.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I’ve been working as a fashion designer full time for six years, I draw all my own prints myself! Drawing is my lifelong passion, before Beautiful Genius LLC, I did ten years of freelance art jobs, murals, family portraits, leather painting, face painting, and before that, as a teenager, I was really committed to my webcomic, perfect stars, I miss the internet of the early 2000s sometimes, the links pages and the forums. I have always loved fashion, I like to wear dramatic things and feel like a different character, maybe from a video game. What I love most about designing fashion pieces is the collaborative way that other people bring the pieces to life by wearing them! People tell me that they get a lot of compliments when they wear my pieces and I like to imagine people making new friends and feeling like themselves and feeling gorgeous in my pieces. In 2023 I became chronically ill and can’t go out too much, so my job makes me feel connected to other people. I love it!

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Long covid has been my worst struggle in life so far, it really decimated my income, social life, ability to enjoy life, etc. My mom has it too! The first two years I could barely read or speak, and just walking around the block would have me dripping sweat, and I was pretty athletic before I got sick! After three and a half years, some of my symptoms have gotten milder, and I have been able to keep my business, which I’m so grateful for because I can work from home, and feel connected to people. I miss getting together with friends and family often! I almost lost my business, but I my husband Jack and my parents have been really supportive and I’m very grateful for that! And in general, it’s always a struggle to make ends meet as a working artist.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
My fashion business Beautiful Genius LLC focuses on my hand-drawn prints, (no ai ever) accessible sizing, I carry XS-5X, and natural fibers whenever possible too. Just soft works of art for your body and home! 🙂

Do you have any advice for those just starting out?
To artists I want to say that it gets easier, but with ai I feel like it just got a lot harder to make a living. In regards to freelance I always said, a job well done leads to another job, and through good work you will earn a good reputation! I would also say, get lots of sleep and don’t forget to eat good meals. Artistic people often have trouble taking care of the body, which makes mental health a lot worse. Take good care of yourself and follow your dreams!
