Today we’d like to introduce you to Emily Burnette.
Hi Emily, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
My career in fashion has taken me through some incredible chapters, from working at Diane von Furstenberg in New York to Barneys, The RealReal, and Neiman Marcus and to Los Angeles. I’ve had the opportunity to work across luxury retail, editorial, celebrity, commercial, and personal styling, each experience giving me a different perspective on fashion and, more importantly, the way people relate to it.
But over time, I found myself increasingly drawn to the personal side of styling. There’s something fascinating about the relationship women have with their wardrobes. What we wear is rarely just about clothes. It’s tied to how we see ourselves, how we want to be perceived, and sometimes even where we are in life.
Today as a personal stylist, I work with women who are accomplished, ambitious, and often navigating full, evolving lives. My work is about helping them build a wardrobe that reflects who they are, supports where they’re going, and makes getting dressed feel like an extension of their confidence.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Absolutely not! I think entrepreneurship has a way of challenging you in ways you don’t necessarily anticipate. You go into it with a vision for what you want to create, but there’s an entirely different side to running a business that people don’t always see. You’re suddenly responsible for everything.
One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned is that being good at what you do and knowing how to run a successful business are two very different skill sets.
The hardest part is learning to get comfortable with uncertainty. There isn’t always a clear roadmap, or someone telling you what the next step should be. But that’s also what makes entrepreneurship so rewarding. You get to build something that reflects your own vision.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I’m known for bringing a luxury fashion perspective and an editorial eye to personal styling. Throughout my career, I’ve had the opportunity to work with some incredible partners, including The Oscars, international HOKA campaigns, The Friends Reunion production, red carpet looks for A-list celebrities, music videos from some of your favorite musicians and so much more.
I’ve also been fortunate to have my expertise featured in publications including Vogue, Marie Claire, Real Simple, CNN Underscored, and Buy Side by The Wall Street Journal.
Today, I bring all of those experiences into my own business, Style Advisory Grou[, where I work with accomplished women who want their wardrobes to reflect their personal style, professional presence, and lifestyle. I think what I’m really known for is marrying that high-fashion perspective with real-world functionality.
Are there any apps, books, podcasts, blogs or other resources you think our readers should check out?
I’m a big reader! I will read a finance or self-help book and follow it up with smut or fiction to balance out the intensity. I am also learning Spanish so a Spanish textbook as well.
