Meet Ivy Lynn of Los Angeles

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ivy Lynn.

Hi Ivy, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I’ve always been an artist. Growing up, art took on so many different forms for me I was interested in everything from music and literature to makeup, clothes, and film.
Always working on something, but never knew it would stick.

I fell into tattooing back in 2021-22, & I never looked back. It gave me what felt like a real purpose during a rough mental state I was in, and all while dealing with the grief of losing my sister.

I always knew in my gut I was meant to pursue a career in the arts. A career based off my creativity wasn’t something I saw in my family, but I wanted to carve out my own route and make my grandparents proud.

I’m so blessed to have come from a family that although never fully understood still supported my weirdness and determination, especially coming from a traditional Hispanic household. I just knew I wasn’t going to allow myself to settle or take the safe route.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Creating a path that wasn’t already laid out for you is incredibly hard. It was back then, and it still is now.

I come from a family of hard workers. My grandparents were truck drivers and house cleaners. My grandma would always tell me, “Recuerda que siempre ponte trucha” reminding me to stay alert, and never forget to look out for myself as I navigated the world.

I was blessed with a mother who built her own career as an esthetician and ended up opening her own salons. She’s always been my biggest inspiration, reminding me why our family fled their country in the first place: so that the women in our generation didn’t have to just settle down, & follow the traditional script. We actually get the chance to live our wildest dreams and build a real career out of what we love.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’m an LA-based tattoo & multidisciplinary artist specializing in chicano fine-line, blackwork, and script all designed to flow naturally with the body. And I create art for the little girl in me who didn’t have a voice giving her a platform to express herself through whatever it is i’ve been drawn to.

What I feel sets me and my art apart is my deep connection to community, memory, and music. I wake up every day in awe of the life I’ve built, while still staying hungry to grow, learn, and push myself further.

My proudest moment this far has been curating my first art exhibition this past July, titled “Fotos Y Recuerdos.” A few years ago, I started following local LA and San Fernando Valley artists to underground art shows

These shows centered on themes like music, photography, politics, womanhood, film and more that just always left me inspired. Discovering these spaces felt like unlocking a whole new world of brown love and brown art I didn’t even know existed, almost like Los Angeles best kept secret.

As I slowly built the confidence to showcase my own work, it left me wanting to build something even bigger for both myself and my community.
Growing up with very young parents, childhood photos were rare for me, but the concept of memory held so much weight.

I wanted to bring artists together to slow down and reconnect with why we create because I know sometimes even I forget that purpose.

“Fotos Y Recuerdos” brought together over 70 local artists from the San Fernando Valley for a night centered on brown love, joy, and storytelling. Which I felt was deeply needed especially during a time when families in our communities are facing so much separation. Bringing people together through art and community was and is very important to me and I’m excited to keep building on that foundation.

Can you talk to us a bit about happiness and what makes you happy?
Seeing the people I love happy makes me happy.
Watching how my art reaches people and brings me closer to strangers, I would’ve never been able to cross paths otherwise makes me truly happy.

Art, cars, music, good people and good food keep me grounded.

I’ve struggled with mental health my whole life, mostly because I was always searching for a specific answer. But that left me to see that I was blindly walking through life without realizing that my happiness was always right in front of me. And that there isn’t always a right answer or a right way to feel. learning to accept that and appreciate what’s around me even those hard slow days is what’s made my heart full .
