Conversations with Priscilla Avila

Today we’d like to introduce you to Priscilla Avila.

Hi Priscilla, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
Hi, I’m Priscilla, the founder of La Luna Collective…. a Latina-owned branding and web design studio. I started my design business about 2.5 years ago, after my father suddenly passed away. For over 10 years, I’ve been in Luxury retail, but I felt I needed a change in career; so I decided to teach myself web design, and started to work on my business while still working full time!

La Luna Collective was born from a desire to blend luxury design with meaningful cultural storytelling. Every project is a reflection of heart, heritage, and a desire to help other women of color create their dream businesses without compromising their essence!

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Working full time in retail sales, going through grief, all while working on my business has been the hardest thing i’ve ever done. I typically do not have a set schedule, so finding a balance and flow has not been easy. I come home from my day job, and then start working on my design projects, marketing, social media strategy, and operations. I have really pushed myself to learn and expand as a first-gen entrepreneur.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
As a proud first-generation Latina, my heritage is the heartbeat of everything I create. Deeply inspired by the vibrant colors, textures, and traditions of México, my work honors the story of my ancestors and the beauty of my culture. It is a way to feel connected to my dad, he taught me to love Mexico & our culture. I wanted to make an impact in my community, and cater to Latina owned businesses. More than that, I wanted to create a community! I help my Latina clients grow their businesses with creativity and purpose; so they can cultivate community, and a brand that feels nostalgic, and honors their roots.

Are there any books, apps, podcasts or blogs that help you do your best?
I love using Notion to stay organized, and Youtube has been a great resource for learning the in’s and outs of running a design free-lance business. I live on Pinterest, for design and color inspo!
