Today we’d like to introduce you to Georgia Menides.
Hi Georgia, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Im a screenwriter and filmmaker with 3 features out in the world to watch on vod platforms. These include the zany comedy, “1/2 New Year” (Jeff Dye, Rome Flynn) and most recently, the true crime thriller, “Deadly Vows” (Peter Fancinelli, Shohreh Aghdashloo, and Billy Zane. My first feature, the controversial teen film, “Still Green,” (Sarah Jones, Noah Segan) came out on DVD in 2009 but disappeared when the DVD market collapsed. I found out last week that, through a deal w Tristan LeoStar that Still Green (Now called Our Last Summer) is coming out on Tubi!!! I am in development and 75 percent financed feature called, “A Christmas Rose” that cowrote w a rescue dog owner … we hope this movie will inspire more people to adopt rescue dogs. I really hope the dog who gets cast as the lead is a Pitbull and shatter notions about them. For money I do audio, video,
lighting, spot op, staging, and carpentry for concerts and live events. Im currently writing a script, “My Imaginary Father” which I hope will help people deal w losing their parents. Mine were the two most amazing people and they are still here w me in another way.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
LOL!!! This business is not for the faint of heart. I am one of millions of talented people who dream of writing scripts that become movies. Unless you have enough money to make the movie yourself, there is no guarantee you’ll ever see your work on screen. Now in this day and age we can make movies cheaper and cheaper and we can upload things to Vimeo but the idea of for a living, writing scripts and making movies that lots of people see if a challenging goal. The hardest parts for me have been all the almosts. You pour your soul into a story and care so much about it. If people like the script and then…….. well now someone w money has to finance it. So of the scripts Ive poured years into, most, and most have won awards, most are sitting on my celtx cue. But the journeys that even trying and almost getting a script made have become life changing adventures of their own.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I specialize in empathy, a big smile, and imagination. I’m proud of all my features although that pride isn’t just to me, its of everyone who was a part of each one. I have been through it, w addiction and mental health and trauma and the process has made me exceptionally non judgemental. Im most proud of the large amount of people who come to me for comfort and advice when they have issues. Thats my greatest gift.
Risk taking is a topic that people have widely differing views on – we’d love to hear your thoughts.
Being in the film business is a risk. I spent all my savings at 42 on my second movie. The movie did well but I still lost all that money almost 95k. I live a pretty modest life for someone my age I rent, atm have no car, and had I spent that money differently I would be more comfortable. However your comfort zone is a prison. Id do it all over again.
