Life & Work with Lesley Guerrero of Los Angeles / OC

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lesley Guerrero.

Hi Lesley, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I’ve always been incredibly proud of my roots, my dad is from Guatemala and my mom is from Mexico. My culture is the foundation of all that I do. My journey through holistic wellness has foundations all throughout my adolescence and early adulthood but where I started becoming clear was at the start of the pandemic in 2020. I was seeking a way to further connect with myself through severe anxiety and also discovering how to connect with my community. I took the leap and signed up for a Yoga Teacher program and have since then gained much more than experience as a facilitator. In my path I’ve met incredible mentors, created partnerships with local organizations in my hometown in South Oxnard and connected with the community in truly impactful ways through my passions of placing at the center, my culture, values of community care and holistic bienestar.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
When I think of my journey, I’ve always taken it one step at a time. The hardest part in my experience has been dedicating time to crafting my “why”. Understanding what really drives me to continue the work: when I’m tired, when I’m discouraged or feeling overwhelmed. As they say, nothing worth having comes easy. Building something you haven’t seen, and creating something sustainable is a daily practice for me in this path. I like to find gratitude in even the bumpiest of the parts on the road because each one has led me closer to making my dream a reality.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I follow both paths of being a professional in my 8-5 work setting and a creative visionary at the core of all I do.
I work as an advocate for survivors of domestic violence professionally and use my experiences in the formal work setting to create spaces of connection, reflection and joy after hours. In my creative work, I facilitate workshops and classes across different holistic wellness practices.
Currently I teach Community Yoga classes at the local library in South Oxnard semi-weekly, in English and Spanish. Some of my other offerings include community soundbaths, dance classes and holistic health coaching. I am most proud of the way I connect with people in my community and the ability to support those in need. I use a holistic wellness approach in all that I do both professionally and creatively which has helped me expand my mission to empower others to live fruitful lives. My passionate soul, continuous desire for learning, growth and values of community are the pillars that make me who I am. I am because “we are” and that approach I’ve noticed, is what has set me apart from others over the years. I truly believe the better we all are, the better we individually can be and my mission is to spread this community well-being approach with everyone.

Where we are in life is often partly because of others. Who/what else deserves credit for how your story turned out?
I have an incredible support system from my fem-tors, friends and family. My fem-tor Klaudia Paletta from Pink Means Go has been crucial in breaking open doors for me throughout Ventura County and has always spoken my name in rooms I have not yet stepped in. I’ve had other incredible women that have empowered me, shared moments of joy and inspiration with me. All of those women have nourished my passions, and guided me when the path is unclear. Alongside my fem-tors and friends there are the women in the community whom I’ve met and connected with throughout the years. These women who join in on our classes/workshops/events bring their stories, joy and love into the community. I am forever grateful for all whom have supported me along the way. Juntas estamos Viviendo Una Vida Bonita!
