Today we’d like to introduce you to Kainalu Moya.
Hi Kainalu, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
Childhood/Teenage years:
– Grew up playing many sports. Football, Baseball, Basketball, Taekwondo, and Wrestling. I eventually ended up focusing on football and baseball. I ended up playing collegiate football while pursuing my business degree.
– I was very interested in music and performing arts from a young age. I played the piano, guitar, and sang often. However, sports slowly took over all of my time.
-Athletics and school was my life. However, I did manage to go to the beach a lot and surf/bodyboard.
Young Adult:
– Took a theatre course in college as a freshman for the “easy A” or “GPA booster”. I ended up loving the process of theatre/acting and the professor told me to keep on taking theatre classes. After 2 years of theatre classes in university, I had the delusional idea to pursue acting in LA. At 21 years old, I moved to LA by myself and the crazy rollercoaster began.
– I learned very quickly in LA how fast money runs out. I was learning financially independence the hard way. I also had no friends (although I didn’t mind that, I have always been a lone wolf type of person). I had no car and no money. I worked at the gym, a fish restaurant, and a staffing company simultaneously. I would walk 2.5 miles to the gym for my shift because I didn’t have a car and then 2 miles to my restaurant job after that. Luckily my manager at the restaurant was nice and would cover for me when I had to miss shifts for auditions. My gym job manager, was not so nice. I ended up getting fired from that one!
-After about 2 years of that, I booked the role of Ollie Akana on Power Rangers Dino Fury (Netflix).
Currently:
– after building up some momentum in the industry… Power Rangers Dino Fury and Power Rangers Cosmic Fury (NETFLIX), The Villains of Valley View (DISNEY/DISNEY +), NCIS HAWAII (CBS), the strike hit and definitely slowed things down
– in 2026, I had the privilege of booking a recurring role on Fox’s reboot of BAYWATCH which will release in January of 2027
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
No it has not been smooth. As stated earlier, I had a rough 2 years in LA when I first decided to pursue acting. Also, I was renting a room when I first got there and after a few months I had to move out because I couldn’t afford it. Soon after I found a couple people who were looking for someone to live in their living room to help assist them with the rent. I spent the rest of my time in LA living in that living room. That was definitely an experience.
Fast forward to now, it is still a challenge. In a different way of course. I have been struggling to get the nod in more mature audience shows. I am hoping that changes soon though.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
As stated earlier, I am an actor. I am also a competitive Taekwondo fighter.
We love surprises, fun facts and unexpected stories. Is there something you can share that might surprise us?
That I am a competitive Taekwondo figher.
