Daily Inspiration: Meet Jordan Christian

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jordan Christian.

Hi Jordan, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I discovered abstract painting in college and have been doing it ever since.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I’ve struggled at different points with doubts about the process. When I was younger I placed too much identity in my success or failure as an artist, which is not a reliable or healthy road. I’ve since found meaning and grounding in many other things, physically and spiritually, while still maintaining a relationship to art and to painting.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
My paintings take a long time to make. For me the process of making an abstract painting is being open to the many revisions and twists and turns the painting takes while it’s being made. In the end it becomes a synthesis of several narratives, colors, and textures, that hopefully exude an overall feeling that is somehow familiar or comforting.

Networking and finding a mentor can have such a positive impact on one’s life and career. Any advice?
I met one my favorite kindred spirits/ art mentors while working at an art supply store. I think if you stay involved and ask questions you’ll find your way to the right people. Shared studio spaces are also a great way to stay connected with other artists.
