Check Out Derae Rain’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Derae Rain.

Hi Derae, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I am Derae Rain, a cinematographer, award-winning visual artist, and actress who thrives both in front of and behind the camera. Driven by an innate passion for storytelling, I bring together my experiences in fine arts, filmmaking, and acting to create evocative, transformative narratives. Beyond my creative cinematic pursuits, I am deeply passionate about the environment, utilizing my platform and visual eye to advocate for conservation and foster emotional connections between people and the natural world. Whether I am shaping a scene through the lens or breathing life into a character, my work is always rooted in a profound love for artistic expression and a dedication to impactful storytelling.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Life has always been full of challenges. The greatest hurdle in my journey has been coming to a whole new country. Being an outsider in a new country means learning to decode unfamiliar cultural and corporate politics without a built-in safety net, all while battling the imposter syndrome that whispers I don’t belong. Yet, these precise struggles have forged my greatest strengths; they have given me a unique global perspective, a fierce work ethic, and a deep-seated determination to shatter these systemic barriers not just for myself, but for every woman who comes after me.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am a visual artist, and cinematographer that devolves into female driven narratives and surrealism.

Let’s talk about our city – what do you love? What do you not love?
I love LA!

To me, Los Angeles is an absolute dream because it is a city where boundless creative energy, diverse cultures, and stunning natural landscapes collided to form the ultimate playground for visual storytellers. The electric atmosphere here keeps me endlessly inspired, but what has me most excited right now is the newly opened Lucas Museum of Narrative Art in Exposition Park. Walking up to that breathtaking, spaceship shaped building is amazing. As someone deeply moved by how we share human experiences, seeing an entire museum dedicated exclusively to the power of visual storytelling—combining everything from legendary cinematic history to fine illustrations and murals—solidifies exactly why I chose to call LA my creative home.
