Meet Brian Padilla of Los Ángeles, CA

Today we’d like to introduce you to Brian Padilla.

Hi Brian, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I am a screenwriter, director and producer from Los Angeles, CA. I grew up in the San Fernando Valley where I feel my love for filmmaking started. Growing up I always found myself with a camcorder or camera in hand. The valley is where I pull a lot of inspiration from when it comes to writing. I went to Birmingham Senior High School where I picked up classes on photography, film, art and theatre. After High School I studied film at The Los Angeles Film School in Hollywood where I focused on learning more about screenwriting and directing. I graduated with an Associates in Film and a Bachelors in Entertainment Business. Recently I released my first horror film called Pizza Day (which you can watch on YouTube) that I wrote, directed and produced.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The biggest challenge I’ve had creatively is understanding when it’s time to let go and just do it. Sometimes you have to believe in yourself twice as more to make your vision come true.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I really enjoy writing horror movies. A lot of my inspiration comes from classic slashers like Halloween, Friday the 13th, The Ice Cream Man (1995) and Scream. Currently I am working on Pizza Day: Second Slice.

Pizza Day: Second Slice or Pizza Day 2 is a follow up to my first short film Pizza Day which I released under Scary Basement Productions. It’s a horror movie about a Killer Delivery Man. Scary Basement Productions is a small film production start up that I created. Although I am currently making a horror movie I do plan on exploring other genres in the future. I would love to make a psychological thriller, comedy or Christmas movie one day.

If you had to, what characteristic of yours would you give the most credit to?
The quality and style of work I am producing at the moment is very familiar to what I would watch growing up. And that is very important to my success.
