Rising Stars: Meet Doreen Cohanim of Sherman Oaks and online

Today we’d like to introduce you to Doreen Cohanim.

Doreen, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
My journey to becoming a hypnotherapist began with my own search for healing.

Throughout my life, I have experienced challenges that tested me physically, emotionally, and spiritually. I have been hurt, gone through a difficult divorce, experienced heartbreak and physical pain, and faced moments when I felt stuck and unsure how to move forward. After a car accident left me dealing with back pain and the possibility of surgery, I discovered hypnotherapy and energy healing. Through my own experience, I discovered a new perspective on the connection between the mind, body, emotions, and spirit, and I was able to overcome my back pain without surgery.

That experience changed my life. It opened the door to a journey of self-discovery and helped me recognize how much we can learn about ourselves when we begin listening to our inner world. Even during moments when I felt hurt, frustrated, or disconnected from my faith, I eventually found my way toward greater understanding, forgiveness, and personal growth.

I began to realize that the very challenges I had experienced could help me understand and support others facing their own struggles. What started as my personal journey toward healing gradually became my life’s passion and profession.

Since 1999, I have continued to study, practice, and explore approaches that help people better understand themselves and create meaningful changes in their lives. I graduated with honors from the Hypnosis Motivation Institute in 2004 and have continued my professional education ever since.

My love of learning has never stopped. I have explored clinical hypnotherapy, psychology, NLP, metaphysical studies, shadow work, life coaching, Reiki, the Melchizedek Method, bioenergetic approaches, and many other modalities. I am fascinated by the mind-body connection and the ways our thoughts, emotions, beliefs, and learned patterns can influence how we experience life. I continue adding to my knowledge because I believe there is always more to discover.

Over the years, my personal experiences and professional work have taught me that every person has a unique story. I have learned to listen deeply, without judgment, and to recognize that beneath many struggles there may be emotional experiences, beliefs, fears, or patterns that deserve understanding and compassion.

My role is not to tell people how to live their lives or to take credit for their progress. It is to offer them guidance, tools, and a supportive environment where they can explore their challenges, reconnect with their own inner resources, and discover new possibilities for change. Through hypnotherapy, NLP coaching, and other approaches tailored to each individual, I help clients work toward greater self-awareness, confidence, emotional well-being, and personal growth.

Throughout my career, I have also had the privilege of working with high-profile individuals and celebrities, many of whom came to me through personal referrals. I consider that trust a tremendous honor. I take confidentiality and discretion very seriously because everyone deserves a safe and respectful space in which to work on personal matters, regardless of their background or public profile.

Today, I see my work as much more than a profession. It is a lifelong passion shaped by my own experiences, my curiosity, my continuous learning, and my genuine desire to help others. I know what it feels like to struggle, to search for answers, and to long for a different way forward. Those experiences have helped shape the practitioner I am today.

I believe that sometimes the experiences that challenge us the most can lead us toward our deepest purpose. For me, that purpose is helping others discover that they are not defined by their past, that new perspectives are possible, and that they can learn to work with their minds and inner resources in ways that support a more meaningful and fulfilling life.

This is why I founded and continue to build Enter Your Mind: to help people discover the possibilities within themselves, one person at a time.

My journey is still unfolding, and so is my passion for learning, growing, and helping others.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
No, my journey has definitely not been a smooth road. Like many people, I have faced personal, emotional, and physical challenges that tested my strength and changed the way I see life.

I have experienced a difficult divorce, heartbreak, periods of physical pain, and moments when I had to find the strength to rebuild myself and move forward. There were times when life forced me to look inward, question old beliefs, and discover parts of myself I might never have explored otherwise.

One of the most significant turning points came after a car accident left me struggling with back pain and facing the possibility of surgery. My own experience with hypnotherapy and energy healing opened my eyes to the mind-body connection and introduced me to new possibilities for healing. It inspired me to pursue this path professionally and dedicate my life to helping others.

Building my knowledge and practice has also been a journey of continuous learning. I have always been curious about the human mind and the many ways we can support personal growth. I have invested years in studying different techniques and approaches, constantly expanding my understanding so I can better serve the people who come to me for help.

Perhaps one of my greatest lessons has been learning to turn difficult experiences into opportunities for growth. My challenges have taught me to listen more deeply, to approach others with compassion rather than judgment, and to understand that every person carries a story that may not be visible on the surface.

Over the years, I have learned that we cannot always control what happens to us, but we can learn to change how we relate to our experiences and what we choose to do moving forward.

The obstacles I have faced have not made me give up on my dreams. Instead, they have strengthened my passion for understanding the mind-body connection and helping others discover their own inner resources.

Today, I believe that my personal experiences have helped shape me into a more empathetic practitioner. When clients come to me feeling overwhelmed, stuck, or uncertain about their future, I understand how important it is to feel genuinely heard, respected, and supported.

My journey has taught me that even our most difficult chapters can become part of a meaningful story of growth. I continue to learn, evolve, and discover new ways to help others because I believe that transformation is a lifelong journey, and sometimes the challenges we face become the very experiences that guide us toward our purpose.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am a clinical hypnotherapist, NLP practitioner, life coach, and the founder of Enter Your Mind. My work focuses on helping people understand the connection between their minds, emotions, behaviors, and physical experiences so they can create meaningful, positive changes in their lives.

I graduated with honors from the Hypnosis Motivation Institute in 2004, and I have been passionate about personal transformation and the mind-body connection for many years. I specialize in helping clients explore subconscious patterns, limiting beliefs, emotional blocks, fears, stress, confidence issues, unwanted habits, and personal challenges that may be preventing them from moving forward.

What makes my work unique is my commitment to continuous learning. I have explored a wide range of approaches, including clinical hypnotherapy, NLP, psychology, shadow work, metaphysical studies, life coaching, Reiki, and other holistic modalities. I am genuinely fascinated by how the mind works and how our experiences, beliefs, and emotional patterns can influence the way we feel, think, and respond to life. I continue expanding my knowledge because I believe every person is different and there is no single approach that works for everyone.

However, I believe my greatest strength goes beyond the techniques I use. It is my ability to listen deeply, connect with people, and create an environment where they feel safe enough to be honest about what they are experiencing. My own life has included heartbreak, a difficult divorce, physical pain, and other challenges that have taught me resilience, self-awareness, and compassion. These experiences have helped me appreciate how important it is to approach each person without judgment and to recognize that there is often much more to someone’s story than what we initially see.

I do not believe in simply telling people what they should do. Instead, I help them explore their own experiences, recognize patterns that may no longer serve them, and discover inner resources they can use to move toward their goals. My approach is personalized, combining appropriate techniques with thoughtful listening, practical guidance, and respect for each client’s individual journey.

Over the years, I have also had the privilege of working with high-profile individuals and celebrities, many of whom have come to me through personal referrals. I consider this a reflection of the trust people place in my work. I take confidentiality and discretion extremely seriously, and I believe every client deserves privacy, respect, and a supportive space in which to work on personal matters.

Beyond my professional life, caring for my aging parents as they navigate health challenges has given me an even deeper appreciation for the emotional demands of caregiving, the importance of patience, and the need to care for ourselves while caring for others.

What am I most proud of? I am proud that I have transformed my own life experiences and my lifelong passion for learning into work that allows me to support others. I am proud of the trust my clients place in me, the relationships I build with them, and the opportunity to help people see possibilities they may not have recognized in themselves.

What sets me apart is the combination of professional training, continuous learning, personal experience, genuine curiosity, and compassion I bring to every session. I do not see my work as simply applying a technique. I see it as meeting another human being where they are, listening to their story, and helping them explore a path forward that feels meaningful to them.

Through Enter Your Mind, my mission is to empower people to reconnect with themselves, develop greater self-awareness, and discover new ways to approach life’s challenges. For me, this is more than a profession. It is a lifelong passion, and I feel fortunate to continue learning, growing, and doing work that I deeply believe in.

Can you tell us more about what you were like growing up?
I was born in Iran and grew up in Israel with both of my parents, six brothers, and one sister. I was fortunate to grow up in a family where education, hard work, respect, and personal responsibility were important values. My siblings have all gone on to become successful professionals, and I learned early on the importance of perseverance, family bonds, and striving to make something meaningful of your life.

Growing up, I was curious about people, their experiences, and what makes each of us unique. My upbringing taught me to respect others regardless of their race, religion, ethnicity, or background. These values were reinforced when I served in the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) from 1982 to 1984. My military service taught me discipline, responsibility, safety, teamwork, and the importance of respecting people from different backgrounds.

My experiences have shaped my strong belief in humanity, fairness, and understanding. It saddens me when I see people judged through stereotypes, misinformation, or hatred rather than through an honest understanding of their experiences. I believe that we can disagree and come from different backgrounds while still recognizing one another’s dignity and humanity.

My life has taken me across several countries. After being born in Iran and growing up in Israel, I moved to Canada, where I got married. Eventually, I moved to the United States to be closer to my family, who had also experienced the challenges of leaving Iran for safety and later moving from Israel to America in search of new opportunities.

Each country has given me a different perspective on life, culture, belonging, and the meaning of home. I love America and appreciate the opportunities it has given me, and I deeply miss Israel, a country that will always hold a special place in my heart.

Looking back, I realize that growing up in a multicultural family, living in different countries, serving in the military, and experiencing different chapters of life have all contributed to my curiosity about people and the human experience. They have also influenced my work in hypnotherapy, where listening without judgment, understanding individual experiences, and respecting each person’s unique story are essential.

Above all, I am grateful for my roots, my family, and the experiences that have helped shape who I am. I believe that despite our differences, we share a fundamental need for safety, love, dignity, and belonging.

My greatest hope is for a world where people can live without fear, where children can grow up in peace, and where respect and compassion overcome hatred. I love America, I miss Israel, and I continue to pray for peace, safety, and humanity throughout the world.
