Inspiring Conversations with Samuel Oregel of Glo up Detailing

Today we’d like to introduce you to Samuel Oregel.

Hi Samuel, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I started Glo Up Mobile Detailing while I was in college, and I’ve been building it while going to school. I offer mobile detailing around Los Angeles and the San Fernando Valley, which means I come to my customers and work on their cars at their homes. I do everything myself, from answering messages and booking appointments to actually detailing the cars. A lot of it has been learning as I go. You have to figure out what to charge, how to get customers, and how to give them a reason to book with you again. I’ve also worked on offering regular maintenance washes so customers can stay on a schedule. Since starting Glo Up, I’ve transferred from community college to USC, where I’m studying Accounting and Finance. Balancing both takes some planning, especially when school gets busy, but running the business has given me a chance to put what I’m learning into practice. I’m still working on growing it, and right now my focus is doing good work and building a steady base of regular customers.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
There’s definitely been a learning curve. One of the biggest challenges has been balancing Glo Up with school. I’m handling the bookings, customer messages, and detailing myself, so I have to plan around classes and exams while still making time for customers. Getting consistent bookings has also been a challenge. Getting someone interested doesn’t always turn into an appointment, and one booking doesn’t guarantee they’ll become a regular customer. There’s a lot of reaching out and following up that goes into keeping work coming in. I’ve also had to figure out pricing. You have to account for the products, the drive, and how long the job actually takes. Early on, it’s easy to focus on getting the customer and overlook how much time you’re putting in. I’m still learning how to balance all of that, but it’s made me pay closer attention to where my time and money are going.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Glo Up Mobile Detailing is my car detailing business serving Los Angeles and the San Fernando Valley. I come to customers’ homes, so they can get their cars cleaned without having to drop them off somewhere or spend part of their day waiting at a shop. I offer interior and exterior detailing, regular maintenance washes, and additional services like seat and carpet shampooing, leather conditioning, pet hair removal, clay bar treatments, and headlight restoration. Some people need a thorough detail, while others just want help keeping their car clean regularly. I work with customers to figure out what makes sense for their vehicle. One thing that makes Glo Up personal is that customers work directly with me. I’m the person answering their questions, scheduling the appointment, and doing the work. That means I’m accountable for the whole experience. I want people to feel comfortable telling me what they need and asking questions about what they’re paying for. What I’m most proud of is building a business that I can put my name behind. Every job represents Glo Up, so the small details matter. I want readers to know that they don’t need a luxury car or a special occasion to book a detail. Whether it’s a family car that needs some attention or a vehicle someone loves keeping spotless, my goal is to do work they’re happy with and make taking care of their car easier.

I’m studying Accounting and Finance at USC while running Glo Up. A lot of my week is spent learning about businesses in class, then figuring things out for my own business, from pricing and scheduling to actually cleaning the cars. It’s given me a different appreciation for how much work goes into a small business.
