Community Highlights: Meet Alex Arreguin of Boxing Lab

Today we’d like to introduce you to Alex Arreguin.

Hi Alex, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
My journey in boxing began when I was around five years old. My father wanted me to learn how to defend myself, so I remember him buying me my very first pair of boxing gloves from a local swap meet. Shortly after, he took me to a boxing gym, and that was where it all began. I immediately fell in love with the sport, and from that point on, boxing became a huge part of my life. I was a very active kid. Enjoyed playing football and racing motocross. But Boxing was always something I would come back to.

I competed throughout my younger years, but even back then, I always knew I wanted to open my own boxing gym someday. I wanted to take everything the sport had taught me and use it to help others, not just physically, but mentally as well.

After moving to Orange County, I began pursuing my coaching career. I worked at several gyms, gaining experience, building relationships, and learning the business along the way. Eventually, I decided to venture out on my own, traveling to clients’ homes and training them privately. Throughout that journey, I was fortunate to meet some incredible people who believed in me and supported my vision.

My first gym was a small, 800-square-foot space where I offered private training and small-group sessions. It wasn’t much, but it was mine, and it represented the beginning of something I had dreamed about since I was a kid.

As my business grew, I quickly outgrew that space and began developing the concept for what would eventually become Boxing Lab. I moved into a larger location in 2019, putting everything I had into creating something special. Unfortunately, shortly after, the pandemic hit, bringing challenges and restrictions that made it nearly impossible to fully bring my vision to life.

It was one of the most challenging periods of my career. I had invested so much time, energy, and passion into building something I believed in, only to face circumstances completely outside of my control.

But instead of giving up, I decided to go all in.

I knew that if I was going to take another chance, I wanted to create the boxing facility I had always envisioned. I found a new, much larger location and committed myself to building something beyond what I had originally imagined.

My vision was to create a unique concept in Orange County: a one-stop destination that brought together traditional boxing, strength and conditioning, and recovery under one roof.

Today, Boxing Lab offers a wide variety of boxing classes designed for everyone, from someone putting on gloves for the very first time to experienced and competitive boxers. Our facility features professional boxing equipment, including a full-size 20-by-20-foot boxing ring, along with commercial-grade strength and conditioning equipment and a complete cardio training area.

We also incorporated a dedicated recovery room featuring an infrared sauna and cold plunge, allowing our members to focus on recovery just as much as their training.

What makes Boxing Lab special to me, however, goes beyond the equipment or the facility itself. It’s the community we’ve built. We’ve been fortunate to attract an incredible group of members, coaches, and supporters who have helped shape Boxing Lab into what it is today.

My goal was never to simply open another boxing gym. I wanted to create an environment where people of all ages and experience levels could challenge themselves, build confidence, develop discipline, and become better versions of themselves.

Looking back, it’s incredible to think that something as simple as my father buying me a pair of boxing gloves at five years old would eventually lead me here.

What started as a childhood passion has become my life’s work, and I’m proud of what we’ve built. My vision has always been to make Boxing Lab one of the premier boxing and fitness facilities in Orange County, and every day we’re continuing to work toward that goal.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Opening during the pandemic challenged me in ways I never could have imagined. It forced me to think outside the box, adapt, and find creative ways to keep moving forward despite the uncertainty. Giving up was never an option because I believed in what I was building and the vision I had for Boxing Lab. Looking back, what seemed like one of the biggest obstacles in my journey turned out to be a blessing in disguise. Those challenges pushed me to grow, think differently, and ultimately create something truly special that I’m incredibly proud of today.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
Boxing Lab is more than just a business to me; it’s my passion and something I genuinely love being a part of every day. I coach individuals of all skill levels in boxing, as well as strength and conditioning, while also overseeing the day-to-day operations and supporting my staff.

As the owner, I’ve never wanted to put myself above anyone else. I believe in leading by example and being an active part of the team and community we’ve built. Being present for both my staff and members is important to me because I believe that’s what allows our community to continue growing and thriving.

One thing I’ve always wanted to avoid is creating a gym that feels too corporate or impersonal. I want Boxing Lab to feel like a second home, where people genuinely look forward to showing up, working hard, and being around one another.

We work hard, but we also have fun. Whether it’s sharing a few laughs, cracking jokes, or pushing someone beyond what they thought they were capable of, I believe that balance is what makes our environment special.

At the end of the day, we’re all working toward becoming better versions of ourselves, and that includes me. I’m not just here to run a business. I’m here to grow alongside my team and members and continue building something we can all be proud of.

What are your plans for the future?
Looking ahead, I would love to continue expanding Boxing Lab within our current location and building on what we’ve already created. For now, I’m happy with the direction we’re heading. Everything is progressing as it should, and my focus is on maintaining that momentum, continuing to grow our community, and making sure we provide the best possible experience for our members. I believe in growing with purpose and allowing things to evolve naturally when the time is right.
