Check Out Rachel White’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Rachel White.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I’ve been singing and performing for as long as I can remember. I’m a Scottish singer-songwriter, and music has always been the thing I’ve felt most passionate about. I trained in musical theatre and spent years working across different areas of the entertainment industry, from performing on stage to working in television and radio.

After spending seven years living in London and travelling to LA chasing my dreams, I eventually made the decision to move back home to Scotland. It was a big turning point for me, both personally and professionally. I’d spent so long chasing what I thought success was supposed to look like that I needed to take a step back, reconnect with myself and figure out what I really wanted.

I took a break from releasing music for 2 years whilst working away on a cruises and traveling, but I never stopped writing or believing in what I wanted to achieve. In 2026, I decided to go all in on my music again after a painful breakup (man overboard) releasing new singles and building my audience independently through social media. It’s been amazing to see people connect with my songs and stories online and to have opportunities like BBC Introducing support and radio airplay internationally along the way.

Social media has played a huge part in my journey, allowing me to build a community around my music by being honest about my experiences, relationships, heartbreak and the realities of chasing a dream. I think people connect with the fact that I’m not afraid to show the messy side of life, while still having fun with it.

Next for me in the next two months I’m embarking on a completely new adventure, heading away for four months working as a singer on a luxury super yacht travelling towards Antarctica. It’s certainly not the conventional route for an independent pop artist, but I’ve learned that my career doesn’t have to follow a straight line. Every experience I’ve had has shaped who I am, both as a person and as an artist.

Ultimately, I’m still figuring it all out, but I’m proud that I’ve continued to back myself, even when things haven’t gone to plan. I want to keep releasing music that people can see themselves in, growing my audience and creating a career that allows me to do all the things I love.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Definitely not! I think some of my biggest struggles have been self-doubt, financial pressures and learning to believe in myself, particularly when things haven’t gone to plan.

In 2021, I had a ruptured appendix, which was a pretty serious experience and had a bigger impact on my performing career than I initially expected. Following the surgery, I had to undergo vocal rehabilitation because the experience affected both my breathing and the muscle memory I’d built up as a singer. There was a psychological element to it, too. When I returned to performing, I didn’t have the same confidence in myself, and I found myself questioning my abilities in ways I hadn’t before. Rebuilding that trust in myself has been a journey in itself.

Financially, pursuing a career in music independently can be incredibly challenging. You’re constantly investing in your own career, whether that’s recording, releasing music, creating content or promoting yourself, and there’s no guarantee you’ll see that money back, that and then living in one of the most expensive cities in the world.

I’m learning that everyone’s journey looks different, and success doesn’t have to happen on a particular timeline. If anything, the setbacks have taught me resilience and made me more determined to keep going. I’m still learning to back myself, even when I don’t have all the answers, and I think that’s been one of the biggest lessons of this whole journey. The grass is always greener…

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I’m Scottish! My work sits at the intersection of music, storytelling and social media. I write and release original music, perform live, create content and build a community around my songs by sharing the stories and experiences behind them.

Musically, I specialise in witty, honest pop with a bit of an edge. My songs explore relationships, heartbreak, self-doubt and the realities of navigating your twenties, often with a tongue-in-cheek perspective. I love writing music that makes people feel understood, whether that’s through a lyric that perfectly sums up a situation they’ve been in or a song that makes them want to get up and dance.

I’m probably best known for my relatable social media content, particularly around heartbreak, dating and the sometimes chaotic reality of being a woman figuring life out. I’ve been fortunate enough to reach millions of people through my videos, and I think that connection has helped me introduce my music to audiences who might not otherwise have discovered me.

I’m also proud of the different experiences I’ve had throughout my career, from performing in musical theatre in London, working on cruise ships, television and radio to receiving BBC Introducing support and building my own independent music career. I’ve taken a slightly unconventional route, and I think that has given me a broader perspective on the entertainment industry.

What I’m most proud of is that I’ve continued to pursue my dream, even when it would have been easier to walk away, settle down and get a 9-5. I’ve had periods of self-doubt, taken breaks from releasing music and had to really rebuild my confidence, but I’ve continued to find ways to create opportunities for myself.

I think what sets me apart is the combination of my personality, my performing background and my willingness to be honest online. I’m not interested in presenting a perfectly polished version of myself all the time. I want people to feel like they’re getting to know a real person, someone who can laugh at herself, talk openly about the difficult parts of life and turn those experiences into music and I’m doing it all from sometimes the middle of the ocean.

Ultimately, I want to create pop music that people can see themselves in, while building a career that allows me to explore different sides of entertainment. I’m an artist, but I’m also a performer, storyteller and entrepreneur, and I’m excited about where that combination can take me.

We all have a different way of looking at and defining success. How do you define success?
Being happy.
