Daily Inspiration: Meet Juliane Berry

Today we’d like to introduce you to Juliane Berry.

Hi Juliane, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I’m international photographer based in Los Angeles and Paris. I specialize in portraits, weddings, family, and brand photography, drawing on my classical training that began in L.A. in the 90s. My work is rooted in traditional film techniques, which continue to influence the tone, depth, and emotional quality of my images. My style emphasizes subtle gestures, quiet emotion, and the visual stories that emerge when people interact with their surroundings. While film remains an important part of my creative process, I also works in digital format for clients throughout Southern California and France. In 2012, I photographed a couple sharing a kiss behind a red umbrella, with the Eiffel Tower in the background. The photograph appeared on the cover of Le Style Magazine and was noted for it’s sense of intimacy, styling, and atmosphere. This also introduced my work to a wider audience within the Paris photography community – an experience that remains especially meaningful to me to this day. Since then, my work has been featured on numerous websites and magazines, such as Elle Decor, Harper’s Bazaar, and the cover of Expatriates Magazine.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Like many artists, there have been struggles. I’ve moved across the world twice, from my hometown of Los Angeles to Paris in 2007, and back to L.A. in 2020, so I’ve had to start from scratch multiple times. Starting over in 2020 was challenging and led me to lose my spark. I’m currently reviving it by capturing a series of portraits to empower and celebrate women. I’m offering women in L.A. ages 40+ an exclusive rate for a limited time. If this resonates, please get in touch and let’s create some magic.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I’m an international photographer based in Los Angeles and Paris with a career that spans portrait photography, special occasion photography, and destination work. I generally give my clients a sense of comfort in front of the camera and I’m happy to have received these messages from clients:

“OMG I AM IN AWE. The colors! The vibrancy of it all. The emotion. Wow. Just wow. And wow again. Thank you again Juliane for the most amazing day. The feeling this is giving me now is so validating and feels so good.”

“You always give honest advice on how to stand in the most flattering way and you give compliments, which are genuine! Which feel genuine! You make the subject feel like a rock star… in a way that is so genuine.”

”I am at a loss for words. So much magic, Juliane! Somehow you captured how we felt being there, and all the relationships and laughs and love. And tiny moments that I saw, but you caught them too. Just WOW. Incredible!”

“These are absolutely stunning! I can’t believe that’s us. We are definitely going to blow these up and hang these in our living room. Like wow! I’m shocked and in awe. You are so so so incredibly talented! You make us look like rock star celebs. I’m literally at a loss of words… these are so phenomenal. The composition, the lighting, the style, all of it. They are so vogue. These are absolutely next level. What you do with your lens is absolutely incredible. I’m so in love with all of these. We look so glamorous and out of this world, but at the same time you were able to capture raw emotion and just exactly how we are. I’m feeling all the emotions looking at these. You make me look like a photo model! And I’m like the most awkward person ever when it comes to photos. Just wow! You outdid yourself. I can’t be more thankful. You are so so sooo incredibly talented. Absolutely stunning photos.”

Trained in classical film photography, my work focuses on authentic expression, natural movement, and the subtle gestures that reveal individual stories. I photograph portraits, families, couples, weddings, brands, and events across Southern California, NYC, and Paris. My work has been featured in gallery exhibitions in Los Angeles and Seattle, and on the cover of Le Style Magazine and Expatriates Magazine. I also specialize in hand tinting black and white gelatin silver photographs, a dying art practiced since the 1800s. Each piece is printed in a darkroom and finished with soft oil paints, resulting in a unique fine art photograph.

Do you have any advice for those looking to network or find a mentor?
