Today we’d like to introduce you to Erin O’brien.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I grew up in New Jersey, just across the river from New York City, I started taking acting classes in high school, then eventually moved to New York. I studied there with William Esper. After my last acting class, I packed up two suitcases and moved to LA, the very next day. I started working on a number of indie films and that’s pretty much been my path. I work on a lot of indie projects and am grateful for each project I get to works on.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Acting and the entertainment industry are anything but simple and easy.. There is so much to navigate and to learn. I’ve always been so eager to learn and to improve and to make connections in this business and I think that’s been a great formula for me. I definitely paid my dues, by working for free, in the beginning, quite a lot actually. But I also learned a ton that way. Although it was difficult at times, I’m grateful for everything I learned along the way. I think rejection will always be the hardest part of this job, but eventually, you just roll with it and accept it as part of the process.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I’ve definitely always been drawn to thriller and horror throughout my acting career. It’s just really fun to play something that’s very outside of the box or different than yourself. There a quite a few films I’m very proud to be a part of, What death leaves behind was a super cool, dark thriller I was a part of, I loved the character I got to play and I especially LOVED the cast I got to work with. Far haven, a western i acted in a few years ago, my first western, was an amazing experience as well, the movie set was so cool! We filmed at the mezcal movie ranch, a very iconic place for filming westerns, I also got to work with an insanely talented cast for that one. It definitely was a dream come true situation. The costumes were AMAZING as well. Lastly, One of my favorite experiences was working on the Tremors TV pilot, staring Kevin Bacon. I do minor stunts, as well as act, so I was able to book a super cool role in that, and it required stunts and acting work.
What has been the most important lesson you’ve learned along your journey?
One of the most important lessons I learned, on this journey, is don’t take it personally and do not ever compare yourself to others. We all have something unique and special we offer to the world, and you may not be for everyone and you may not be right for every project, and that’s okey.
