Today we’d like to introduce you to Kalyne Lopez.
Hi Kalyne, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Más Vida was born during COVID, at a time when I honestly had no idea what my future would look like. I was working as a mixologist when everything shut down, and suddenly I couldn’t go back to work. I had already been living a clean and organic lifestyle and loved making my own products at home, from candles and body butters to skincare serums. I decided to use that unexpected time to learn more about formulation while also going back to school for Business Communications.
That’s where Más Vida, meaning “more life,” really began. Inspired by my Caribbean roots and the natural beauty of Puerto Rico, I wanted to create clean products that felt vibrant and special while still being safe, effective, luxurious, eco-friendly, and affordable.
I started selling online and at local farmers markets, and little by little, an amazing community formed around the brand. Customers became regulars, told their friends, and kept coming back. I’m incredibly grateful that something born during such an uncertain time has grown into what it is today. Más Vida allows me to share a piece of where I come from while giving “more life” to my community through products that are better for ourselves and the environment
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. When I first launched Más Vida online, I honestly thought I would put my products out there and the orders would just start coming in. I quickly learned that having a great product is only one small part of building a business. I had to start completely from the ground up, learning marketing, branding, connecting with customers, doing markets, and figuring things out as I went. I’m still learning every day.
One of my biggest struggles was financial. I started Más Vida with very limited capital because I was already out of work due to COVID. There were moments when I struggled immensely financially, so investing what little I had into a business was truly a risk. I had to be resourceful, patient, and grow at a pace I could actually afford. Looking back, those challenges taught me so much about resilience and trusting the process. I’m proud that I kept going, even when I couldn’t see exactly where it would lead.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
At Más Vida, I specialize in hand making candles, fragrances, and skincare. I think what we’ve become most known for is creating that luxury experience without the luxury price tag. I’ve always loved beautiful, high-end fragrances, but I couldn’t understand why enjoying an amazing scent had to cost hundreds of dollars while also harming our health. I wanted to create products that smell and feel luxurious while being clean, non-toxic, and affordable.
Our candles are especially loved for their long-lasting burn and amazing scent throw, and our fragrances have become a favorite for customers who want that elevated, expensive-smelling experience without the crazy price tag. I’m also really proud of our skincare. Our honey turmeric soap, for example, has become a customer favorite, and I’ve had people share with me how much it has helped improve their skin. Hearing stories like that means everything to me.
What I’m most proud of is knowing that something I created is actually making a difference in people’s everyday lives. Whether it’s someone finding a fragrance that makes them feel amazing, lighting a candle that completely changes the feeling of their home, or finding a skincare product that finally works for them. That’s what makes this so fulfilling. Más Vida isn’t just about selling products to me. I genuinely care about what I’m creating, what goes into it, and the people who use it.
Where we are in life is often partly because of others. Who/what else deserves credit for how your story turned out?
I’m incredibly proud to say that I built Más Vida from the ground up on my own. I funded the business myself, developed and made my products, built the brand, learned the business side, and figured things out along the way. There were definitely moments when it was overwhelming, especially starting with very limited resources, but I believed in what I was creating and kept pushing forward.
At the same time, I don’t think any journey happens completely alone. I’m incredibly grateful for my customers, friends, family, and everyone who has supported Más Vida, shared my products, or simply encouraged me to keep going. I’m also constantly inspired by other women entrepreneurs who have taken risks and created something of their own. Seeing other women build businesses from the ground up reminds me of what’s possible
