Today we’d like to introduce you to Daniel Curry.
Hi Daniel, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Hello! My name is Dan Curry. I’m originally from upstate New York (Albany area) and spent 15 years in NYC. My wife and I moved to Los Angeles in 2011. We only had one car, so we went on Let’s Make a Deal and won a second car, a 2011 Prius (behind door #2) that we still drive. Shout out to Wayne Brady. Since then, we’ve worked and thrived in this amazing city (Los Angeles). Highlights include having two sons (9 and 13 – both do better in school than I ever did) as well as working six seasons as the head writer of the Eric Andre Show (2012 – 2023) earning an Emmy nomination and possibly PTSD. We’ve owned our home in Atwater Village since 2018. I love LA and discovering secret spots. I love LA so much I switched from rooting for the Mets to rooting for the Dodgers. Sorry Rams & Chargers (especially Chargers) but I will always be a Buffalo Bills fan, and there’s quite a few secret spots for us. Anyway, to wrap it up my wife and I went on another game show in January (America Says) and we won another $7,000. We’re using that money to repaint and restore the Prius. Okay. Hope this is the right amount of detail.
(PS. Right now the LA thing on my mind is that the best keto tacos are at East Los Tacos in East LA)
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Nothing is a smooth road. LA is an expensive city and our families live in NY/NJ. I hate the October heat, it’s the only time of year where I’d prefer to live on the east coast (also the last week in June I’d prefer to be in Cape Cod). I suppose making the film “Bad Trip” was not a smooth road.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’ve written for TV and film and some advertising (Wu Tang in Space for Impossible Sliders). Right now I am focusing on writing feature length scripts and short form filmmaking (I’m making a short right now about my Prius restoration)
What separates me from others is that I got ground level experience as a creative on a television show that has remained a staple of the meme world. The sheer volume of tattoos strangers have put on their bodies from things I wrote always puts a smile on my face.
What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
Most:
– Food, specifically Mexican food.
– Near perfect weather (this week is far too hot)
– Neighborhood culture
– Hiking
– Ocean access
– Farmer’s markets
– YMCA in Glendale
– Rescuing dogs
Least:
– Gas prices
– Less writing work in Los Angeles
– Hollywood (city) isn’t really for me
– Chargers should move back to San Diego
