Meet Paul Barbeau of Los Angeles / OC

Today we’d like to introduce you to Paul Barbeau.

Hi Paul, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I have always been service minded and have been in hospitality for over 30 years. Better Call Paul was officially launched in 2017 as I realized there was a need to offer elevated service for parties, corporate events and gatherings in the greater Palm Springs area. I began with little more than my silver platter, a relentless work ethic, and a healthy dose of Southern California charm.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Better Call Paul Butler Services survived the biggest challenge, which was Covid in 2020. During that time, a lot of people came out to the desert to shelter in place. So, I put on a mask, grabbed my silver platter, and kept going. I adapted quickly, finding new ways to provide the same thoughtful, personal service in a world of masks, social distancing, and constantly changing rules. I was hired for socially distanced events, bringing a little levity and good energy to a time that desperately needed it. And yes, I even butlered two weddings during those wild days. I wasn’t going to let a pandemic keep me from doing what I love—or from finding a way to make it work. Overall, it’s been a pretty incredible ride because making people happy in turn makes me happy- so it’s always a win-win.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
My specialty is exceeding expectations and going above and beyond—often before anyone even realizes they need something. I’ve been described as a “Superman” because I can seemingly be in 3 places at once and handle the work of three people while keeping the energy fun, calm, and professional.

No two events are the same, and that’s what I love. One day I might be coaching a crazy dodgeball tournament at a corporate retreat, the next I’m leading a whiskey tasting, and later I’m putting together a beautiful charcuterie spread to serve on a floating platter in the pool. Sometimes I’m whipping up my signature Sweet and Savory Waffles for a bachelorette brunch, some nights I’m officiating wedding vow renewals, other times I’m organizing poolside tacos and making my locally famous Cucumber Jalapeño Margaritas. I’m equally comfortable jumping into the action, managing behind the scenes, and just anticipating what guests need next.

What I’m most proud of is the reaction I get from my guests when they realize they can completely relax because I’ve got it handled. This is why so much of my business is repeat clientele. Once you’ve hosted an event with my services, there’s no other way. That’s really what Better Call Paul is all about: making the host’s life easier and the guests’ experience something to truly remember for years to come.

What matters most to you? Why?
Honestly, the people. Whether it’s a group of moms on a girls weekend, a corporate retreat, a family reunion, a bachelorette party, a baby shower or a wedding- I genuinely care that they have a great experience and I will go above and beyond to ensure that. For me, it’s not just about getting the job done. It’s about creating moments, taking care of people, and making sure everyone feels like they’re having an incredible time. There’s nothing better creating the kind of experiences where people can relax, enjoy themselves, and simply be present in the moment.
