Rising Stars: Meet Taylor Escareno of Los Angeles / OC

Today we’d like to introduce you to Taylor Escareno.

Hi Taylor, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I was obsessed from the first time I ever held a henna cone. I was 16 and I went to my local fair with a friend. We both got henna tattoos at one of the fair booths, and decided to buy a henna cone as well.
Later that night at our sleepover, we found ourselves covered in designs I had done. I had no clue that from that point on, I would build a career from doing what I love best: art.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Around the five year mark of working at fairs during the summer, I had quite a few people unhappy with my work. I think they knew I was not fully confident in my work and decided to try to get a free henna out of it.
Now, eleven years in, I’m fully confident in my work, disgruntled customers rarely happen, and definitely do not affect my self esteem.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
As a henna tattoo artist who does primarily fairs and events, I do a whole lot of everything.
Most times a customer will pick a time and time done again design from the book, but there are the fun cases when they bring me a photo to copy or an idea in their head to bring to life.
I specialize in nature and plant designs the most. My most popular design is 7-9 branches full of leaves running up the fingers and arm. Looking at an individual’s anatomy, I intuitively draw the branches and leaves, giving everyone an unique design that they love!
