Today we’d like to introduce you to Estevan Velasco.
Hi Estevan, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I was born in Albuquerque, NM in a government working family that moved around a lot. I grew up in my emotional shell; too shy to be too much of anything. I turned to listening to music, drawing cartoons, and watching music videos. My mom and I shared a love for music; she loved the greats like MJ, Madonna, Celine, Mariah, & Whitney. When I started listening to music on my own, it was typically rooted in y2k r&b along with an infatuation for Britney Spears. My mom later encouraged me to express my creativity by enrolling me in dance classes and trombone music lessons. When I got into my teenage years, I spent summers with my uncle who had his own dj business by night and was a radio personality by day. His influences derived from funk music by artists like EWF, Rick James, and George Benson. With that background in music, inspiration from my family, and the drive to bust out of my shell to live unapologetically, it’s no wonder that I’m living the life I live today. Currently, I am a Las Vegas showman working as a dancer in two Las Vegas strip productions, as a singer in two other shows, gigging as a musician throughout the city, and as of today, a business owner of my own entertainment based LLC. My current passion project involves my own music that I am so excited to release.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The greatest obstacle I have faced comes from experiencing loss. The uncle I mentioned before passed away in July 2024. I haven’t been the same since then. He was my hero and someone I would call for advice on numerous occasions. Although it has been a challenge, it’s also an encouraging reminder for me to keep going for him. I actually opened the LLC under his old business name, JFV Entertainment. His name was Juan F. Velasco.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am a full-time entertainer. I work in production shows on the strip as a dancer, singer, host, musician, and creative director for various projects. Right now, I am most proud of the work I have created that involves my own stories to be told. I also love that I have been able to work with and create with my friends! The fact that I am a gay man of color sets me apart from the majority of my peers. I am always proud to be myself in everything I involve myself in.
Are there any books, apps, podcasts or blogs that help you do your best?
I’m not much of a reader, but my most used apps right now are my calendar and Spotify apps. I also watch YouTube music videos pretty frequently for vibes and inspiration.
