Today we’d like to introduce you to Dessie Buenrostro.
Every artist has a unique story. Can you briefly walk us through yours?
For as long as I can remember, I’ve loved taking photographs. I didn’t have my own camera until I was X, so I had to use my dads. I remember being so impatient to see the photos I had taken that I would waste the remaining film just to develop them faster. Many times, I would get in trouble because it wasn’t cheap to develop a whole roll of film that often. When I was 14, I started modeling and I was completely fascinated with all the equipment involved in a shoot. So, my love for photography started very early on, then just continued evolving. My love for photography reignited after the birth of my daughter. Luckily, by that time, digital cameras were a thing. I ended up, taking every class, tutorial, or a book that I can get my hands on because I realized that photography is my passion and I wanted to pursue it.
Please tell us about your art.
My style is very clean and simple with a bit of grainy matte every once in a while. In addition, my goal is to tell stories through my images, I want to capture the raw emotions and candid bits, while still keeping everything relaxed and informal. I can definitely say that lifestyle photography is what interests me most, that’s why I chose to capture weddings, maternity, and family portraits.
As an artist, how do you define success and what quality or characteristic do you feel is essential to success as an artist?
Success is very subjective because it means something completely different to everyone. To me, it’s all about putting in the work, trying to improve constantly, learn from your mistakes and be consistent with whatever you do. Consistency is key.
