Today we’d like to introduce you to Emilie Thorsby.
Hi Emilie, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
Music has been a part of my life for as long as I can remember. It started when I was a child, during a difficult period in my life when I was being bullied. Music became my escape and, in many ways, it saved me. It gave me somewhere to put all the feelings I couldn’t express anywhere else.
For years, I was told that I would never make it with my music and that I would never reach an audience. But I chose not to let those words define me. Today, I have had the opportunity to perform in London in front of a full house, and my music is now being played on radio stations in more than 10 countries.
I’m also incredibly proud to have received support from NBC, which has helped give my music even more exposure and allowed me to reach listeners far beyond where my journey began.
What makes it even more meaningful is knowing where I came from. The music that once helped me through bullying and some of the hardest moments of my childhood is now being heard by people around the world. That is something I will never take for granted.
And this is only the beginning. I have several more concerts coming up, and on the 28th, I’m heading into the studio to record new music. I’m excited to see where this next chapter takes me.
I’ve learned that sometimes the people who tell you that you can’t make it are the very people who make you determined to prove that you can. I’m grateful that I kept going.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
One of the biggest challenges I’ve faced has been believing in myself when other people didn’t believe in me.
Growing up, I went through bullying, and there were times when I felt like I wasn’t good enough. Music became my safe place and helped me get through those difficult years. But even after I started pursuing music seriously, I was told that I would never make it or reach people with my music.
That can be difficult to hear, especially when you are already fighting your own doubts. There have been moments of rejection, setbacks and uncertainty, but every challenge has made me more determined to continue.
I think one of the hardest parts of being an independent artist is that you have to believe in your vision before anyone else does. You have to keep creating, keep performing and keep moving forward, even when you don’t know what the outcome will be.
Looking back, I’m grateful that I didn’t give up. The challenges I’ve faced have become part of my story, and they have given my music a deeper meaning. Today, seeing people connect with my music, performing to a full house in London, and hearing my songs played on radio stations in more than 10 countries makes every difficult moment feel worth it.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I think I’m best known as an artist for my music reaching audiences far beyond my home country. Having my songs played on radio stations internationally and being able to connect with listeners around the world is something I’m incredibly proud of.
I’ve also been fortunate enough to receive two music awards in the United States, which was a very special milestone in my journey. For me, those awards represent more than just recognition — they are a reminder that the music I create can cross borders and reach people from completely different backgrounds.
At the same time, I believe my voice is a big part of what makes me unique as an artist. I have a powerful and distinctive voice, and I want people to be able to recognize me not only from my songs, but from the emotion and character in my voice.
Ultimately, I want to be known as an artist with an authentic sound, a unique voice and music that can connect with people anywhere in the world.
Do you have any advice for those just starting out?
Yes never give up no matter what
